Now for Ricoh, it seems their entire camera business is a hobby project.
Well somehow that even sounds right.

With the takeover Pentax had 1900 employees and that number maybe even went down a bit over time. With Ricoh having 107.000 employees in total one could call it a hobby.

So it better perform up to the demand level to continue.

100,000 Ricoh employees are working on this:

Ricoh is committed to Pentax, K-mount, 645 and Q. End of story. As of this week.

Any suggestion to the contrary is incorrect. Pentax does not exist without K-mount.

Ricoh bought Pentax because they valued Pentax's Optio line of point-and-shoots. And their marketing savvy. They will kill the K-mount. Makes perfect business sense.

Wait a minute. I thought Ricoh bought Pentax to acquire the legendary O-ICK1 cleaning technology. Im sure i heard they were going to make a giant sticky cube to clean their photocopier platens - each one will come with an instruction booklet in several languages, a sticky cleaning mat, and a ladder.

WHERE IS IT, RICOH?

Ricoh bought Pentax Imaging from Hoya because they were kindly, politely, Japanesely requested to do so. In Japan, one never closes a business down if one can manage to do otherwise.

Ricoh appears to plan diversifying their business, with Imaging playing an important part. They had the chance to acquire Pentax, and incorporated them in this plan.

You gotta ad /sarc tags here, casual forum visitors will not be able to tell your post from the usual doomsaying.

Seriously, didn't Ricoh specifically mention the 645 system at the time of the takeover? Although I'll probably never be able afford one, I can't wait to see what the next 645 model is like!

Hopefully it is mirrorless and has a new mount.

That second link is a surprisingly good explanation of how different lenses can be helpful in differing situations, I'll have to link people to that.
