RiceHigh's Pentax Blog

Also the rumor suggests that the new sensor is 20MP APS-C.

Edit: Oh good news.. rumor also posted on Photo Rumors.. not just RiceHigh ;-)
Rumors: full frame Pentax DSLR, K-3 specs and a new DA 18-70mm f/2.8 lens | Photo Rumors
And now he's saying it will use a 24MP sensor.

He just copies whatever he sees from the internet and posts on his blog, then becomes the original 'source' . Sometimes those internet 'sources' become his inside sources too.

Believe it or not? Just treat them as other rumors: might be correct, but most time just rumors ...

The one thing we know - it will be Different. We don't yet know whether it will be Revolutionary different.

Pentax will be the Alternative to CaNikonY, not another CaNikonY.

Looks like Ricoh accidentally put a small indication of the K-3 up on their website, since removed. Doesn't reveal anything, but probably a good indication that it's coming soon and is a replacement for the K-5 II.

Google Translate

Credit where credit's due - I first saw this on Rice High.

No credit, it's old news. It doesn't say it's a K-5II replacement, either.

The image on the page I linked to says "K30/K50" and then "K-5 series/K-3". So I think implies it is a continuation of that line.

I agree, it's hardly earth-shattering news, but it does come from Ricoh themselves.

So many haters

If the posted specs are correct:
"Pentax K-3: 24MP APS-C Sensor, Hardware AA Filter-less, Software AA Filter, PRIME III Image Processor, 86k RGB Segmented Light Metering with -3EV Sensitivity, 27-Point AF with -3EV Sensitivity, 8.5 Maximum FPS (Tentative), 4 Stop SR, 100% 0.95X Optical Viewfinder, Fixed Air-gapless LCD, Built-in Interval Shooting up to 2000 Frames and Internal Video Composite, MPEG4 AVC/H.264 Full HD 30p/60i Video, New Stereo Phone-out Monitor Jack, 3 User Modes, USB 3.0, 800g, US$1299.99 Body Only"

Then this looks very promising, I guess we will know for sure ricoh is firmly committed when they release a FF K-mount DSLR, but this is a step in the right direction and a what seems to be the best spec aps-c dslr on the market. The amount of negativity is somewhat surprising. I suppose Rice is bringing out a lot of negativity in people, too bad. For some reason I think I might like the guy, I think he might be too passionate about the K-mount. Maybe someday he will come around and start focusing on photography once again.

For what is worth, this is what RiceHigh, on August 27th, 2012, predicted would be announced just before Photokina on September 3rd:

QuoteQuote:
1. K-300 - 16MP basic (cheap) model, old sensor, no WR, no remote switch socket, no microphone input for video. Treat it as a K-01 with the addition of the old Penta-mirror finder found in the K-x/K-r but with deletion of the stereo mic input;

2. K-5N - with the new 16MP Sony sensor (likely the one used in the NEX-5R) and new SAFOX X, 21 AF points, finally! (9, crossed, 12 linear), slightly higher frame rate at 7.5 to 8 fps, flipped monitor screen:-

- - -
| + + + |
| + + + |
| + + + |
- - -

3. K-3/K-S - with the somehow old Sony 24MP APS-C(!?) sensor, and new SAFOX X, S model being variant without anti-aliasing filter to be marketed at a later stage, lower frame rate (~4.5 to 5 fps), flipped monitor. Last time the MZ-S model reminds me of the S letter hints the end of the line, and hopefully! Btw, the K-S is said to be priced at 1400 Euros - same original (high) price as the K-7 when it was first sold.

4. 645DN - replaced with a new 49 x 37mm 50MP CCD sensor, support 16-bit RAW, effective 48MP in 48 x 36mm. So, the crop factor of the 645D will change! That is, from 1.36 to 1.25X, e.g., the DFA 645 55mm "standard" lens used to a 43mm on the 645D in 135 sense and it will effectively become a "40mm" lens on the new 645. The 645DN will be aggressively priced at 1,000,000 Japanese Yens (~US$ 13,000).
In the end, K-5 II and K-5 IIs were announced on September 11th.

Lovely stuff...except it gives me a headache already while drinking, i.e. a night earlier than the usual suspects.

Belnan:
FYI, it's him who is the hater; the only thing he's passionate about is hurting the brand as much as he can.
He can get it right, from time to time; it's not that he's reliable (because he's not), but it's the sheer quantity of predictions, rumors or whatever. Just by copying what others said, is statistically impossible to be wrong every single time.

Given the cost of new coatings Vacuum Evaporators - IMHO the new HD DA Limited lenses are all the proof we need that Ricoh is committed. Ricoh has invested thier money in new production processes first (catching up on the investments Hoya refused to make) so they could produce competitive products now.

That's why we haven't seen anything new from Ricoh - they were constrained to using products designed under Hoya for the existing production facilites they bought from Hoya.

I'm affraid this is probably not to be seen soon.
With this K-3 in traditionnal APS-C format, it is tempting for Ricoh to take advantage of it's name better known as the first or second FF DSLMirrorless builder on the market (more or less on par with Sony).
Indeed, develop new lenses would make sense in the mirrorless format, in terms of innovation / "compacity oriented" market.
And therefore i see Ricoh to introduce the new product line with a new Ricoh FF mount, only compatible with Pentax legacy lenses via adapter...
