I would only lose my Sigma 10-20 which could be easily replaced. I would imagine that my 50-135 would still be a useful lens on a FF.
Not sure what the best replacemnt for the UWA would be though.

I find it interesting that most people seem to assume that for the K-3 (APS-C, any FF would almost certainly not be called "K-3") there are only two choices for sensor: the current 16mp, and the 24mp of the NEX-7.

Photokina 2010 saw the introduction of a brand new, unheard of sensor (the 16mp) that found its way into no less than 4 cameras at launch, and nearly a dozen since then (in some form or another). The 24mp sensor, by contrast, has been put in 3 cameras, if I'm not mistaken, nearly a year after its introduction, including an entry level camera of all things (demand must be pretty low to force the sensor price down to that level), and benchmarks seem to see it as a shameless cramming of more pixels with no other advantage over the 16mp.

Given the decidedly lukewarm response to the current 24mp APS-C sensor, I find it reasonable to expect that Sony has been working on a totally new sensor for Photokina 2012, this time with significant improvements over the 16mp. Pentax and Nikon may also be aware of this and waiting for its launch, which is why we have yet to hear anything of a replacement for the K-5, D7000 or D5100.

The 50-135mm sucks on FF. Severe vignetting. Check out falk's thread for pics.

That is not so good a sensor, looking at comparison in dpreview between K-5, NX200, OM-D-5 and Nex-7.

Unless Sony pulls out a new sensor (something like 18-20mp) with improved performance then I hope Pentax stays with the current 16mp sensor for another generation of camera's in aps-c.

I think Samsung has failed to get the most out of the sensor. Just look how ugly the NR is. If you look at the conclusion I think it has the same ISO score as 7D and k-5, not 100% sure (anyway I wouldn't trust their scoring, because I think they are idio**, but the comparisons are useful).

Im sure Pentax would get better results with the sensor, but maybe not good enough. I don't think they should stay with the 16mp because other brands will have more. I think that first time dslr buyers will simply ignore an unknown brand like Pentax if the similar/less priced Nikon has 8mp extra.

More resulution ftw! I'd like the 24mp Sony sensor. Maybe they have perfected it by now?!

It is not likely to be as good as sony's sensors.

Because it makes absolutely no sense in any naming scheme Pentax has now or ever did.

K-7 (APS-C) -> K-5 (APS-C) -> K-3 (FF) Um, what?
K-30 (mid-range APS-C) -> K-??? (high-end APS-C) -> K-3 (FF) Um, how does that work?

The K-30 is not a K-5 replacement. Not even close. It is the same or inferior in every single way to the K-5 except video (and possibly AF). There is also no way they are going to kill off the high-end APS-C line in favor of FF, as there is greater demand and greater profitability for high-end APS-C (not to mention the extensive high-end APS-C lens lineup). FF would exist on top of the lineup. So what is the K-5's replacement to be called if K-3 is FF? K-3.5? K-40? Makes no sense. Sure Pentax has had some weird names in the past (*ist D anyone?), but at least cameras within a generation followed a progression from either their contemporaries or their immediate predecessors (or a totally new scheme).

Let's take a look at Pentax's previous naming scheme:

K2000 (entry level APS-C) -> K200D (mid-range APS-C) -> K20D (high end APS-C)

If K-30 is the new mid-range (replacing the K200D and shifting the digits), it follow that K-3 is the new high end APS-C. I am 99% certain that any FF would have a totally different naming scheme, just like the K-01, Q and 645D.

Perhaps compared to the current 1st world standard, where morbid obesity is "normal".
