I can't imagine Ricoh buying Pentax without getting the patents.
I would imagine any imaging related patents went with pentax and any medical related stayed with hoya

With the K-30's better tracking ability I hope that the K-3 would have more than 11 AF points. 19 cross-type perhaps +2 non-cross?

A 21-point is what I and hoping for. I really just need a single center AF that is really fast and accurate in low light. The rest are just a bonus. This feature alone wont make the K-3 worth twice as much as the K-30 however.

I'll tell you I complain about Pentax allot. But with the new owners and the new body fixing to be released I am very excited. It cannot help but be a huge step up for Pentax. I am gearing up and getting my lenses back in order and waiting now. I am rather disappointed in Canon and there sensors as late. Pentax will never be able to compete with them because of the lens line. But the next new Pentax camera will be in my bag for sure. It will have the latest Sony sensor in it in my opinion and Ricoh will put all there effort into making it a winner I believe. Man I hope it will blow my socks off. Now if the AF issue is addressed I will be in heaven.

Just curious; why do you need a new body?

My K-5 AF is just junk in low light. Also the buttons are not working now. The focus button quit now and the back button for the menu is sticking. For me the 7D just raked the K-5 over the coals pretty good. I have used it for the last year and not one problem. I really consider the K-5 a complete failure. Except for the Pentax fan boys here. It really was a second rate camera. But I think Ricoh will clean that up allot.

It seems your K-5 is faulty though, was it out of warranty or....? I've put 20k shots on my K-5 and it's been faultless.

Really? I'm amazed at how good my new k-5 is in low light. The cdaf not so, but pdaf works great, got mostly keepers with the da35 ltd at 2.8-4 - 1/30-1/60 - iso 2000-6400 at a wedding party on Saturday (partly only candlelight).

cdaf (contrast detect auto focus) is what it uses in live view (if you haven't told it to do otherwise), otherwise it uses phase detect auto focus.

You can use PDAF in liveview on the K5?

You can, but of course the mirror has to flip down momentarily for PDAF to activate. I do this on my K-x rather than CDAF, even if it's loud and annoying, because the LV->flip down->PDAF->flip up-LV sequence is still faster than continuous LV+CDAF
