That is true. It's one of the downsides of that lens.

But at 615g, that lens weighs slightly less than the Canon 24-105/4 (670g) or the Nikon 24-120/4 (710g). So I expect that if any new Pentax 24-120/4 comes out, and it is a FF lens, it will also be a hefty piece of glass.

The weight issue for that class of lens seems to work for Canikon - the 24-105L for example is a very popular lens.

But even that is not necessarily true. At some point - and you know it very well - they used a Samsung sensor.
...just like Samsung...?

Looks like you didn't finish your thought?

I like some of dpreview's reviews. I like the existence of their studio shots but don't think they always carry out those tests well.

For sensor performance I really prefer to use DxOMark. YMMV, of course... but DxO shows the advantage between the D600 and the K-5 at equivalent resolution is about 2-3x the advantage between the K-5 and the K-x.

It looks like DxO hasn't tested the D7100 yet.

Not arguing here -- I don't know Canon equiipment at all, but aren't the L grade lenses in a premium class? Isn't the pricing well above consumer?

Not that the above is bad, I'm just imagining who would pay Pentax's probable price for such a lens (Limited ZOOM).

Not really - the Nikon 24-120/4 and Canon 24-105/4 L are about the same price on BandH - $1100-$1200. Stuff like the non stabilized Canon 70-200/f4 L is also about $700. Not cheap, but L grade lenses are not always out of amateur reach.

Any new Pentax FF lenses probably won't be bargains, judging by current DA* pricing. That's the likely dark underside to Pentax producing a FF...

Samsung used their own sensors later, in the NX series.

rawr, I'd rather pay a fair price for a quality product, than slightly less for a compromised one

Oh I agree. But I think folks should be prepared for some sticker shock when [if] any new Pentax FF glass emerges..

Yes, yes, but that will be the same for the FF camera. It will not be a stripped down low-end consumer-level camera, a la D600, and FF lenses themselves aren't going to be cheap and easy to manufacture either. Consumers are going to have to expect to pay a little more for higher-end products.

rawr, I agree; and it's not only Pentaxians. When the D600 was still a rumor, people were expecting it to cost as little as $1500 - and of course it didn't.
I try to avoid such things happening to me by not expecting lower prices than the equivalent Canikon's MSRP. In fact the first Pentax FF could be more expensive than the D600 (IIRC in one of the interviews Kitazawa-san hinted at not going for a stripped down FF, Ash, this is what you're talking about?).

Good thing I already have most of my FF lens bases covered But I don't think I will be early-adopting any new FF camera. I can wait.

Samsung sensor compromised, is that what you're saying? That's stupid.
Whan it came K20D sensor was no slouch at all. If Pentax chose to go Samsung again for K-7 that's Pentax fault, not Samsung's.

Good thing for me the only truly APSc lens I own is the DA55~300 (unless the DA40 Limited doesn't work after all).

Well, and the Q's.

Of course if they abandon K-mount like the 3-posts-since-2009-Dude claimed on that closed thread - then I am well and truly ..... happy to just keep shooting film and MF lenses on APS sensors.
