There were two Pentax announcements before Photokina in 2010:

- K-r + DA 35mm f/2.4 + compact cameras on 9 September
- K-5 + DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 on 20 September.

It could be the same this year with the leaks being about the first of two announcements only.

The line of cameras without K-3 (even APS-C) looks rather weak - K-30 and K-5II(s). Two DSLR cameras...

"2013 or Later"
I know. That's why I would expect them to trot it out at the dog and pony show.

Considering the lack of leaks about K-3 (compared to all leaked pictures of K-5 II and lenses), I also think that there won't be any K-3 in Photokina
I could go either way at this point

The real irony would be if we were all misdirected into thinking that there were two new K-5 versions on the table when in fact, there was actually only a K-3

At any rate, I'm still dying to see what comes out of this myself.
In fact, this is quite possibly the most exciting pre-Photokina experience I've had in years.

I would like to think that it's exciting but experience has taught me otherwise. Pentax has never over-delivered at Photokina. We always got what we were expecting and what was indicated before hand. The only source for a 24mp APS-C comes from RH. I'm not sure that really counts at all.

Given this I am not excited as the only product that would excite me would be the K-3. I suppose it's possible that we could see a K-3 later on, and in a way it would make sense to split the two announcements, so I am not totally without hope. But all I am expecting is the K-5II/S at this point.

Funny how expectations are lowered by the minute. In short we went from expecting a:
- FF at photokina to...
- K3 APSC at photokina, and maybe FF in spring to...
- re-run of K5 now, and maybe K3 APSC in spring.

Next thing you know we'll just be really very excited with 9 anouncements: The DA 50 1.8 will now also be available in 9 exciting colours.

It's not Pentax fault, if people were building up unreasonably high expectations, nor if said people listened to RH

Indeed. This appears to be RH's modus operandi.

Although I don't think a K-3 with the 24mp APS-C sensor is unreasonable. The K-5II and K-3 in one go is doable for Pentax - add in the K-300 and 645DII and it's getting excessive.

So when is Pentax officially set to talk at Photokina? I'm willing to wait until then.

And it's not Pentax fault that their competition is raising the bar, lowering prices and expanding lineups either. But it is Pentax problem though. Our expectations are for Pentax to act upon these new market conditions to aid their own survival. Expecting Pentax to have some sense of self-preservation is not unreasonably high.

Pentax is doing the same: raising the bar, expanding their lineup, lowering prices... oops, they still have to work on the last one
Expecting them to solve every gap while making a significant step forward (FF), in a single step (Photokina), is completely unrealistic and unreasonable.
