Yes, and in many ways the K-01 + DA or FA Limiteds is already a credible competitor. But there's not a lot of competitors for a FF mirrorless - Leica I think is the only player. It's a blue ocean and Pentax already has the lenses for it.
yes Pentax will not be your salvation , Sony maybe . Fuji will too after .

I don't believe that the Fuji X-mount can accommodate a full frame sensor, suggesting that they don't have plans in that direction.

And Sony makes lots of bodies but not as many lenses. Do they have a family of fast primes like the Pentax FA for either A or E mount?

Voigtländer 125mm f/2.5 SL Macro Apo-Lanthar is no slouch either...

Ah I see where the DAX thing came from now. Mike Svitek huh...

2013-2014, if Pentax-Ricoh finances are stable, seems to be even better times for Pentax product releases.

24-120 F4..I like it! How about digital refurbs of the FA trio including quickshift focusing.

I'm interested in how you get accurate manual focus with that lens Doug.

Live View on the D800 throws away every 2nd line of image and is almost impossible to focus with accurately for me. Does that lens have the confirmation chip installed?

Manual focusing with the standard Nikon focusing screen is pretty hard, even for me. For accurate focusing with stationary subjects I use an external Swivi 5.6" LCD monitor with focus peaking.

Quickshift would be nice but how about WR?
They managed to add WR to the DFA100/2.8 without any increase in size, it shouldn't be too hard to add seals to the FA Limiteds.
I'd like to see them expand the family though, I really like the look of this:

Two of the current FA Limiteds (31, 77) work well on APS-C too (equiv. 47, 117), the 43 (equiv. 65) is a bit of an oddball.
New additions should serve a purpose on both formats, 50-55mm (equiv. 76-84) or 18-24mm (equiv. 27-36) would work well, I think.

An AF version of the K/A 50/1.2 shouldn't be bigger than the FA31, I wonder how fast a 20ish wide lens could be while keeping close to the size of the other Limiteds.

No it shouldn't be any bigger- however the real question: is the AF on the Pentax DSLRs good enough to focus accurately even with the inherently low contrast of a 50mm f/1.2 lens?

Thanks for that info. I've just watched a demo on You Tube and it looks really useful. Did you buy this screen locally? Can you give me an idea of the cost?

cheers

The camera store I frequent, twin city camera house usually give me a hefty discount on things I buy from them...but going by the RRP: $480, and it comes with the battery supplied - unlike the Sony CLM-V55, which costs $570 which doesn't come with the battery, but you can get one for $115 and the sun shade has to be bought separately, so that is another $50..... as if I needed one more reason to loathe sony products.
