Just to show my ignorance, I didn't realise til now there was DA and there was DA*. Bloody Pentax and those * !! I thought they would have learnt from the stupid naming of the D series that *'s just lead to trouble!
Well, these "stupid" *-marks have been here last 30 or so years meaning star class lenses. We have learnt that what ever lens serie is in question, * mark means best of the best. M*, A* FA* and now DA*. It is same as Canon L.

*ist, *ist D, DS etc. was first time this * was used in bodies and thus not so good idea. There * was not for an extreme quality but just an marketing gimmic.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the lenses actually use stars, not asterisks....we just use '*' because there's no star symbol on the keyboard

EDIT: Just checked my 400mm.....it's a star - not an '*'.

Received an e-mail yesterday from Pentax Scandinavia. They say that they expect to receive details about weight, filter size, price, and other details aroung the begining of April and that the two shorter zooms will be available by the end of April. It sound to me like it is very likely that the 60-250 will not be available sooner than mid-summer or early fall / autum. Pitty...
You can get most of the information about the two shorter zooms by looking at Tokina's specs. There will be some minor difference in the exact dimension and the weight (weather sealing for Pentax lens etc), but the elements and filters size will be indentical. Here's Tokina's 50-135 f/2.8:

Maximum aperture: f/2.8
Minimum aperture: f/32
Optical construction: 18 elements in 14 groups
SD glass: One element
Coatings: "Water Proof” optical coating
Angle of view: 31° 3’ ~ 11° 8’
Minimum focus distance: 39.3 in. (1.0m)
Reproduction ratio: 1:5.89
Zooming system: Rotary type
Number of diaphragm blades: 9
Filter size: 67mm
Maximum outer diameter: 3.07 in. (78.2mm)
Dimensions: 3.07 in. (78.2mm) X L 5.32 in. (135.2mm)
Weight: 29.8 oz. (845g)

Here's Tokina's 16-50mm f/2.8:

Focal length: 16 to 50mm
Maximum aperture: f/2.8
Minimum aperture: f/22
Optical construction: 15 elements in 12 groups

So I looked on adorama's site and they are giving the release of the DA* 16-50mm as August 2007.

The price they have there is $749.95

Are their pre-release dates and more importantly, PRICES normally accurate? B&H is quoting $899.95 and say that they don't know the release date.
