Looking at the prices of the lenses, this system looks cool. I would not get it for myself, but this would be great for my fiancee. It's small and light and has more options than a high end compact. Knowing how Pentax has been able to maximize sensor capabilities, it may turn out that the 1/2.3 sensor won't be bad at all.

small sensor long zoom lenses

Go look at the 22.5mm to 810mm equiv. lens on the Nikon P500 36x Superzoom that has the same size sensor then look at the Sony DT 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Zoom Lens (11x 27-300mm 35mm equivalent zoom ) for NEX Cameras then you will see why this makes sense.

Makes sense at $300. Makes ZERO sense at $800.

Show me a link to a $300 camera with small interchangeable lenses and scratch resistant magnesium alloy body with SR and 1080p30 H.264.

Well, if Pentax had priced it at $7000 and someone would claim that it's worth only $4000 would you write "show me a $4000 camera with small interchangeable lenses etc." and thus prove it is worth $7000?

That's not how pricing works.

Do you want Pentax to make money or do you think they should sell it at a loss ? I am sure the street price will be lower than $800.

I personally would like them to scrap it immediately and to either join m43/NEX and make weather-sealed cameras for that, or at least to release their own large-sensor mirrorless system. And I suspect that would be a good business decision.

You really want Pentax to die. Think before you post such stuff.

This is one of the most incredible pieces of marketing I've seen in a while.

Translation:
The lenses have lousy IQ. The poor IQ is being marketed as a feature, rather than a shortcoming.

Why?

Anyone can take a technically excellent photo with AF and today's precision sensors.

A creative photo is another story.

What may be excellent technical IQ to one is simply not creative to others who want it all messed up....like their hair.

Or are you a Justine Bieber fan?

This is exactly correct.

And I might add Pentax makes two very good cameras for the I need everything automatic crowd. Just don't buy this one if you don't want it. Or you can buy a Canon or Nikon. I wanted an X100 and didn't whine about Pentax not making one. I just bought the Fuji. Ditto on M4/2, I got an Olympus.

I really like the toy lens idea so I'm probably going to be very tempted by this.
