Telephoto Prime?

So I was checking out the lens review section, and as we all know, there is a huuuuge gap between 70mm and 200mm. Is there any rumor at all about a prime filling that gap?

Well there is still running the survey for R&D spendings on lensdevelopement:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/146454-wich-le...r-d-money.html

Popular are DA*85mm/f1.4 but that wont close the gap and also popular is DA*135mm/f2.0 wich would be my number one lens to buy.

I assume you're referring to a modern AF Pentax lens?
If not, then I guess you'd have many choices to choose from.

I like the Samyang 85's, 90 and 100 macro's and 135's that come from various manufacturers.

This isn't a pentax lens, but it might end up being a beast: Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens 106109 B&H Photo

Oh, I didn't think that lens would come in a pentax mount...interesting. However, it sure isn't cheap.

What's wrong with the Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR or any of the FA primes
(Pentax-FA 77mm F1.8 Limited, Pentax-FA* 85mm F1.4 [IF], Pentax-FA 135mm F2.8 [IF])?

Nothing is wrong with them really...I already have a DA 70mm ltd. I wouldnt mind a 100mm, but I would prefer a 135mm or 150mm.
I have looked all over for a FA 135mm, but no one wants to sell them

I was just on Sigma's site last week looking at that lens and there was no mention of a pentax mount for it. Hopefully it will be coming out in the pentax mount and that it is not a mistake on the B&H site...

true story

In the current line up there is nothing between 100 and 200 mm focal length in primes. 125 mm would resemble the FOV of a 200 mm in full format, something you only find in Pentax zooms these days. It is probably hard to sell specialized primes, like anything with a really wide opening or in the intermediate tele range beyond the FA77. A 125 mm lens or even 135 mm lens is missing (modern design not 10, 20, 30 year old designs). It should be 2.0 to distinguish itself from the 2.8/100 macro and the 2.8 zoom. I do not see it coming unless otehr lenses are introduced as well.
More important are lenses with SDM focussing and larger aperture lenses, something replacing the FA lens series. The SDM 55 is a start, a SDM 30 or 20 mm would make sense - and would be easier to sell than a SDM 125/135.
Did I say tele converter? Missing!
A nice longer tele foto lens would be nice as well. A 4/400 or a 2.8/300 ...to show that there is a serious tele option in Pentax land.

There are rumors that Nikon will update most of its most important 2.0 designs: 35/85/105mm with silent AF in the near future. That could mean trouble for Pentax. Some Canon lenses are also due for overhaul. Time for Pentax to compete.

New lenses require a decision on future sensor format size. DA lenses cover APS-C sensors. Replacing the fast FA line lenses with DA SDM lenses requires a decision on future formats. You can not present DA lenses now and a full frame camera in 3 years time.... It will be intersting to see what Ricoh plans and if the 645 will remain the only professional Pentax system.

It was originally listed on the Sigma site and Sigma had acknowledged a K-mount version at one point but then "crawfished" and took that off their site. I wonder if the Sigma boys heard the Hoya boys were going to sell Pentax.

a compact 120-135ish DA Limited would be great. lets say f2.4
but it has to be compact (i dont expect it to be a pancake)

The Sigma 150mm macro was listed on Adorama for the Pentax mount. They said they would ship it as soon as it became available. But it is no longer listed. I was watching that lens. The non-OS version was very sharp. I used it on my E-3 a couple of times and was very impressed.

I hope it is offered in the K-mount. There is rumor of a Sigma 135mm f/2 next year.

IMO the best is the FA 100/3.5 (though a cheap construction) between the autofocus ones. The best overall are the K macros, a league of their own.

I'm not so sure about the difference between the OS and non-OS version would be in terms of IQ, but if the OS appears to perform evidently better at the infinity end, it would be really worth the additional cost. one could easily acquire the Non-OS version for half the cost of the new one.

as far as 135mm rumor is concerned, the Samsung 135/2 seems to be more close to reality than a Sigma.
