Specs for new cameras announced

I didn't see this mentioned in this forum. Apologies if it is old news.

There is a thread in "the other place" that apparently lifts the lid on the K20D & K200D cameras to be announced on Jan 24th 2008.

New DSLR announced on 1/24/2008 (next year): Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Correction: specs for new cameras rumored to be leaked. These seem reasonable but not mind-blowing (i.e., a pretty good rumor to make up). Unless that new sensor itself is incredible in some way. Which it might be... just want to make it clear that nothing has actually been announced.

what happens to the K10D?

The K20D is what is expected. CMOS sensor from Samsung or Sanyo, better SR, increased DR, equal or better ISO, same size as K10D, minimum 5fps, live view, and some other improvements. Not as nice as the Nikon D300 but head and shoulders over the Canon 40D for a price at or below the 40D which is $1,299.

Pentax seems to want to be a little below the competition on pricing and a K200D with a 10MP sensor would do that nicely against the D40x and the 400D. Right now the K10D is at the same price as the D40x and 400D after rebate. If Pentax eliminates the rebate on the K10D it would be $150 to $200 above the K200D. Not a bad spread but very close. My guess is if you want a k10D for the ridicules price of $540, buy it before the rebate expires.

Regards,
Ken

From looking at the new patents for this month they have just received approval for an SR unit that works in the X, Y and Z planes!?!?!?! What was that? Yes guys the Z plane, so rocking back and fourth will be the thing of the past

Don't know if it will be in, but would be cool!

Z plane movement? it might be also useful to correct front and backfocusing problems with some lens. To me it would be interesting if they could implement some sort of focus bracketing althought you dont need to move the sensor for that. Thanks for info anyway, sounds quite interesting

Isn't the K10D's SR mechanism supposed to be able to compensate for rotational movement as well (eg. the shutter button press) ? Might that be the "Z" axis ?

IMO (but I do not have any official information, if I did I wouldn't talk at all lol)
  • both K100D and K10D will survive for a couple months at least
  • K200 will use AA or CRV3 just like K100 and ist-Dx serie
  • K200 will also get K10's Sony 10Mpix sensor and much better buffer
  • K20 will use K10 Lithium np-400 compatible battery (and shoud be compatible with K10 grip)
  • Bodies should be very similar to K100/K10 bodies respectively (on a shape/weight POV)

The K200D sounded pretty good to me until I read that it'll have the 10mp sensor from the K10D. I really like the low light performance of my K100D and, from what I've gathered, the K100D sensor has much better low light performance than the K10D/K200D sensor.

Guys...Be cool. It is all good. No assumptions please. The new Pentax will be ground breaking.

Yes, we know, it is so good that the Trash Icon is really a link to National Geographic Magazine.

The K20D images are so perfect, that Adobe had to redesign Photoshop for them:
All it consists of is a close button.
