I just added the DIGITAL CAMERAS section to my GoogleNews page. (Click on PERSONALIZE.) The top story: this 645D Ltd! Yes, it's catching attention, grabbing eyeballs. That is what PR / marketing is all about, eh? I'd say that the recent string of news -- Q system, Ricoh buyout, 645D Ltd -- is a hint of what is to come: a steady stream of events / stunts / announcements that put Pentax more firmly in public view. We can expect more of the unexpected. Stay tuned.

By far one of the best hopes I'm all ears for. This year must be a good one for Pentax!

I would ceratinly not buy one as a user camera even if I could afford it (I can not!). However, this misses the point. I believe many misses the point with Pentax nowadays. This camera illustrates what being a Pentax means. Pentax is carving a niche among volume manufcaturers as a brand that is about individuality and quality. A camera brand by artisans for artisans. The K-5 and the Limiteds also illustrates this point. We will se more high-end stuff from Pentax in the years to come.
I agree with the above quote. Pentax is focus is different and me who sees photography as a craft, I love the tools that penatx provides. Showed my K5 and 3 Ltd lenses to a Nikon fanatic at the weekend and was blown away by the metal lenses and solid K5 camera. he said he only thought of SLRs as canon and Nikon, and didn't realise there was a pentax option.

It will be interesting to see just where Ricoh positions Pentax, how they market the brand. Maybe as THE INNOVATOR, taking photography into new directions, just as Asahi did with the original Pentax and Spotty. That could be exciting, eh?

A couple years ago, were other options. Before buying my K20D, I nearly bought a Sigma or Fujica forensic SLR because I like spectrum-slicing, working in odd regions of EMF radiation. Those would have tied me down to expensive Nikon lenses, alas, so now I'm Pentaxian. Folks with more money have more MFD choices than we have with our small-format dSLRs. But CaNikon have the marketing budgets, the name recognition, the visible presence, drowning out the other options.

well... if they made it WHITE instead of red, things may look different. Some people could actually consider buying one for use. Yet, that would not stirr the discussion so much, would it.

Had to happen.
Limited editions of all Pentax's products are a given - just a matter of time.
A thing of beauty, no doubt.
