html5 + mobile friendly design?
Mobile friendly would be great.

What I'm hoping for is that they'll do something to dissolve their bias towards displaying landscape orientation images -- I shoot mostly in portrait mode and because of their layout all my shots end up way downsized to make room for their graphics.

Most screens being landscape in orientation, I can see PPG still keeping that 600px height resizing algorithm.

I never said you did. did you miss the > ? That was a statement simply to point out that this thing is coincidental with the Ricoh acquisition. In other words, it was more of a quip with the opposite in meaning. I expected something to happen with the PPG but figured it would be Ricoh that ultimately does something. Remember that at present it is on a Hoya server or Hoya rented server and will have to be acquired or moved.

That system is annoying when searching via camera body, especially on about the 3rd body.

I signed up about 4 weeks back.. took about a week to get an artists code.

I then went through the rest of the signup, submitted a Bio. and even uploaded an image.

Two days later I went back to check and my account didn't work. Recovering passwords didn't work either. I sent a support email, and they couldn't find my account either.

Seems the database threw up... which may be what triggered the early shutdown ??

Thank you for all of your efforts voting on artists' images over the years. The voting system is on hold until the new website launches in late October. We will resume voting at that time.
Voting now on hold too!

Funny...I just submitted a bunch in the queue a few days prior to the site going on hold...the photos are still in the waiting lineup so I guess it will take over 3 months to see where they end up...ahhh well....c'est la vie.

.

Desktop PC friendly would be great too.

I always steered clear of the PPG galleries becuase the damn interface was too slow and was bad ergonomically. I'm glad they are updating it. it suer needed it.

The times I did try and endure the bad coding, I saw dome great pictures

I'm surprised they have to close uploads because of this- it's not like we close the forums before a redesign
I suspect a hosting/branding issue and contracts following.

The submission process and voting were brought down due to some database issues. Anything we did to fix them would be a temporary bandaid. Instead, we took the opportunity to totally update the site and move away from a flash interface. At the same time we are adding some new features (like commenting and image rating on the front end) and increase the load speed across the board.

Fantastic!! I completely stopped even visiting the site because of its prior usability issues.
My first couple of photos were accepted and I found the site had potential,
but still, I could not stand to go back and submit more.

Thank you for the info.
I am looking forward to visiting the site, and may even start posting photos again as well.

Good to hear JC, thanks for the update.
I do wonder, though, if commenting will be of much value to the gallery - sounds like it would turn it more into a blog. Popularity (by clicks or otherwise) would be better IMO. Nevertheless, a good move for PPG.
