This is some type of meet & try event at Pentax HQ in Japan. Probably specifically for the Q, but they always include some neat stuff like that K-1.

There is also mention that the Q mount is meant for a bigger image circle than 1/2.3".
That's logical. You've got a 1/2.3" image sensor, and a sensor shift stabilization system. The image circle hence has to be bigger than 1/2.3".

The question is, can you use a sensor larger than 1/2.3" without either removing the sensor shift assembly altogether, or reducing the corrective abilities of the system.

Yes, it was the same six megapixel Philips FTF3020C CCD sensor as the Contax.

Falk (along with maybe a few others) seems to have some inside information. Many of the rest of use are just "reading the tea leaves". That is like analyzing pictures of politburo members at military parades to determine who's in and who's out of power. Entertaining and fun, yes, but not really productive. Predicting the future is much easier in hindsight.

I remember Pentax working with Kodak on several prototypes 10 years ago including the early 645D the MZ-D etc. Its possible they worked with more than one given it was a prototype development project.

I am wrong.

My memory served me wrong and I thought Kodak was involved. Yes, I meant the same thing which Contax commercialized
Contax N Digital Review
and which made them sink. It had a Phillips sensor indeed.
The Pentax MZ-D MZ-D obviously rebranded K-1 by some funny Pentax employees.

Funny employees used the K-1 designation as an alternative for MR-52 or MZ-D already several years ago : K-1

The official reason to cancel this camera was the price of the sensor (and not the performance): Pentax cancel 6mp digital SLR: Digital Photography Review

John Dickins, Marketing Manager, Pentax U.K. Limited said, "The cost of manufacturing the prototype SLR 6-megapixel digital camera meant it was not a viable product for our target market. However, we have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in the development of this prototype which will ensure technological innovation in future Pentax digital products."
Maybe they wanted to show the big FF (built-in grip) vs. the small Q. However for that purpose already the K-5, 645D (with Korejanai-Robo painting ), 645 and 67 were made available:

So, why should Pentax present the K-1 again? After 645D and Q it is the last idea not realized yet...

It annoys me so much of this good information is in Japanese. Really doesn't help get these products exposed to the wider "global" market.

me, i don't just want interchangeable lenses, i want interchangeable sensors. C'mon, global conglomerates, you just have to start off with a spec.

Here, now it's time to do candid indoor night shots at the pub; i'll slot in my low rez hi-sensitivity sensor. Time for landscapes? No problem; there's my high-pixel count, no-AA filter fine arts sensor.
Hey look! i just scored one of the last batch of Foveon sensors ever made!

If I recall right, the image circle is a bit larger due to the of the image stabilizer. One issue with the mount and putting a bigger sensor on it is the flange focal distance - was it 9mm? That would be really unsuitable for much larger sensor, so the lenses would need to include a short empty tube making them larger than they'd be otherewise.

Isn't that the idea behind Ricoh's GXR?

Drooling at the thought of a full frame Pentax that can match or beat the D700 or 5DMKII! Give me that and a couple of FA primes and I am in heaven!! Also of course there are several Sigma lenses all ready for use on full frame for Pentax as well including the new 70-200 f/2.8 and the 85mm f/1.4

It can use a bigger sensor (not thicker sensor) based on reports from Pentax.

Well a 2/3" (6,6 x 8,8mm) would be great, since it is twice the sice off the current sensor. With a 16 megapixel sensor the pixels would have 50 % larger surface and that should improve image quality (I guess).
