Samyang 24mm f1.4

Samyang just announced a new lens, a 24mm f1.4, that will be available in K-mount as well.

Looks nice, although I wish they would start adding auto focus to their lenses. Recent 35 mm f1.4 was pricey enough.

Shouldn't be too bad. They don't come with AF, and compared to similar lenses from Nikon and Canon Samyang lenses have been relatively cheap.

they are building a full range of quite cheap primes, that's good !

Some competition on this kind of market is good

Samyang lenses are building a great rep being used wide open ... but then losing the IQ when closed down when they should be getting even sharper. Still, you don't buy 1.2/1.4 lenses to use stopped down !

Well it would be nice if it was f2.0 and half the size I think.

Wow, 13 elements in 12 groups, 2 aspherical elements and 4 ED glass elements. That's pretty complicated.

I'm all in at up to $600 USD for this one - hopefully it will be around the $500 range though...

Why doesn't anyway release fast wide-ish primes for APS-C? Seems like it would make sense. Pentax makes wide lenses, but other than the 14mm f2.8, none of them are particularly fast. Still, you would think you could decrease the size of the lenses considerably if you didn't have to cover a full frame sensor.

Why do you say that? At least the charts on photozone don't support your statement for the 35mm and the 85mm.

Let me clarify. It was in a shoot-out with some of the world's top 85mm lenses. The Samyang did more than just hold it's own wide-open, but it lost out to those lenses as they were all stepped down. Impressive none-the-less that a $500 lens could hold it's own wide-open against lenses cost x2, x3, x4 times as much !

The 35mm is also considered to be very sharp wide-open.

more like FA*24 with added benefits of AF....

I thin I would use 24/1.4 quite a lot but I have to say that focus f1.4 @ 24mm behind 5m distance would be a b*?!h... at least for me anyway.. I'm very happy with AF.

But looking at Samyang, they are getting very serious. 85/1.4, 35/1.4, 24/1.4, 14/2.8 and fish eye. And they are all FF lenses! I guess it's good for the competition, so keep them coming....
