I just looked at those iso1600 and iso3200 pictures and they are awefull! I don't want this sensor, when this is the real output that the sensor is producing!

The A77 is weather and dust sealed, as is the new 16-50mm f/2.8 lens. This is the first weather sealed lens from Sony, and the combo should appeal to photographers working in harsh conditions.

What About Full Frame?

The A77 is a cropped sensor / reduced frame / APS-C sensor camera whatever you want to call it. This, plus the fact that the A900 is now some three years old, begs the question will there be an A99? Is a new full frame Sony Alpha on the horizon?

I think that there is, and it even may well use the same (or similar) body as the A77. As mentioned earlier, the A77 is a full-sized camera, with the heft and gravitas that a Prosumer model deserves. It certainly appears as if a full frame sensor could be used with the same chassis (if not the same actual body) as the current one. Nikon's D700 and Canon's 5dMKII are of this genre.

I guess the quality of the RAW files from the NEX 7 will give an indication if there is a qualitative margin Nikon and Pentax can reach, if and when they can afford the new 24Mp sensor.
Absolutely. MORE MP = MORE RESOLUTION. If you want HIGH resolution and RAZOR SHARP images - put weak AA filter or remove it.

10 MP CCD and 12 MP CMOS in Pentax cameras has very weak AA filter and you can get razor sharp photos with fixed lenses.

I'm not an expert on this, but this looks like a step back, compared tho the 18 megapixel sensor from Canon that is not as good as K-5.

Good for Sony, quite an accomplishment.

I'd like to see Pentax go with a 4 tier system at this point:

a. Top line: weatherproof pentax version of A77, 24 megapixel
b. K5 with minor tuning for a 2nd model year, prices would have to be dropped, 16 megapixel
c. non, weatherproof 16 megapixel version of KR,

d. K645D, in a class of its own

I hope Pentax won't abandon the prism. I hate to look at EVF.

We might see a camera with the same sensor at some point though. As always with Sony sensors it depends how far down Sony's customer list Pentax finds itself - Doesn't it normally go Sony - Nikon - Pentax in terms of access to new APS-Cs?
Last year it was the other way around. First K-5, then D7000. But I don't want more megapixels. What I want is a Canon-like sRAW option - flexibility of RAW, small file.

Judging from the hands on preview above, I will stick with my K-5.
The high ISO shots look craptacular, and I dont print large enough to take advantage of the higher resolution anyway. I dont want an electronic view finder, and the higher burst rate doesnt interest me either.

No thanks....how about some more weather resistant primes instead

I agree that the high ISO shots, in the hands on preview, don't look very good. I don't personally see a need to go with a 24mp sensor, especially if it's going to negatively affect high ISO performance. I'd rather they stay at 16 to 18mp and work on improving high ISO capabilities.

To me the A77 seems big, and with the grip it seems downright huge. I'll be sticking with my K-5 for now, but I'm definitely interested in seeing how the A77 compares against the current competition (K-5, D7000, 7D).

There is a 3D dial option... @___@

3D enable lenses I'm guessing.

Well Its a first of test for this sensor. Rumor is that Nikon will release D800 with the same sensor and probably Pentax by Feb-Mar. But since there is too much to be done (Ricoh-Pentax) before releasing a camera new camera might be Photokina year. On the other hand A77 looks like K20D in some ways. =)

I think the point of this camera must be to boost SD card sales. Who wants 24 MP of noise? You can't print the photos any larger than you can with a 16MP sensor or it'll look like a Jackson Pollock. Folks who argue for higher MP count while retaining an APS-C sized sensor should look at Sony's latest and best attempt and consider that if the sensor's manufacturer can't get it right, what hope does a 3rd party like Ricoh-Pentax have?
