Pentax version of the Sony a77 coming ?

Since the K-5 uses a Sony sensor like in the a55 it seems like the K-5 upgrade will have the new 24mp Sony sensor.

Hmmm... I like the 16-50mm 2.8. Technology is bound to improve, sensors are bound to get better and better, and K-6 (or whatever) is bound to have this new sensor--but a nice looking, and most likely well performing Super Sonic wave Motor 16-50mm 2.8 for a starting cost of $700 impresses me a lot.

I doubt that we shall ever see an SLT from Pentax.

We might see a camera with the same sensor at some point though. As always with Sony sensors it depends how far down Sony's customer list Pentax finds itself - Doesn't it normally go Sony - Nikon - Pentax in terms of access to new APS-Cs?

What kind of glass do you need to feed a 24 mpix sensor? Expensive...
16mpix in the K-5 is more than enough. If you need more, get a 645D or any other medium format camera. This is just silly...

The A77 makes me go "meh". I guess I have to try the electronic viewfinder first to really make up my mind. But I mean... both the A65 and the A77 are larger than the K-5, and the A77 is even almost exactly the same weight.

Same for me. The NEX-7 is much more interesting from my POV. But alas it's clearly represented by its price.

For Pentax users the big question is will the 24MP sensor be used in a future Pentax DSLR. And how does it performs?

That's damned impressive for Sony who has always had a reputation for expensive lenses but relatively bang for buck bodies.
The A700's features are impressive too for the cost...no mention of manual video control of aperture/shutter but it probably has it.

Sony Alpha SLT-A77 Camera - Hands-On Preview
very agressive NR - ISO1600 is not even close to 12 or 16 MP sensor.

not a fan of the short battery life of the A77 - when the battery runs out the blasted thing is nothing more than an expensive paperweight.you can't even look through the viewfinder unless it is turned on - that will take some getting used to for some.

It will be interesting to see what the RAW files look like. Sony has always had a bad JPEG engine, so the first round of images are not much to go by.

If Pentax can remove the AA filter and handle that function with software I think they could have a very interesting camera. The SLT technology take away 1/3 of the light and removing the AA filter would give you another 10-15%.

It is hard to say what Nikon and Pentax will be able to do with the new sensor. Both companies have a history of getting more out of a sensor than Sony does. Each company does their own micro-lenses/color filter/AA filter and apply different technology to the image processing.

24 MP MUST be without AA filter. But SONY put AA filter and strong NR.

strange that it runs on the same battery as A700. One would think that in 4 years time there should be some development in the battery bussiness.

Are you sure it can avoïd AA filter ?

I guess the quality of the RAW files from the NEX 7 will give an indication if there is a qualitative margin Nikon and Pentax can reach, if and when they can afford the new 24Mp sensor.
