That's sensible, given that new camera releases tend to come along on a calendar nowadays. And it's been a year or so since the K-5 was released.

But at the same time, it's also a recipe for paralysis There will always be the prospect of something better coming soon.

The real trigger point for me in buying a new camera comes when one (or all) of the things below happen:

(a) the price/performance ratio of a new camera switches into 'BARGAIN!';
(b) my current camera can't deliver something important that the new camera can;
(c) my old camera dies;
(d) I get sick of seeing 16 year old girls walking about with higher-end equipment than me.

I picked up the K-7 for $760.00 from Adorama in 2010, so it was a pretty good deal. I have skipped the K-5, but I will probably look at what ever replaces it. I don't have a significant issue with the K-7 sensor and what ever sensor they use in the K-5 successor is going to be a marked improvement over the K-7. I am more interesting in improved AF & SR.

Do you have any kind of hunches on "horizon timing?"

Given Pentax release history, I wouldn't be surprised to see it comming for January / February (Sony keeping the Chrismas sales for their new beasts)

I would be actually very interested, I do print big and crop a lot, which makes the 24Mpx all the more attractive. I can't tell for the zooms but Pentax primes have plenty of sharpness to match the sensor.

Woah, I just checked out dcw, the K-5 body only is down to $1159! That is crazy low, new body coming?

Also, the DA*60-250 is down to $1369, as far as I've known, it's always been about $2K, if I wasn't broke, that lens would be so tempting right now.

Hey Dan, have I just got Vanbar on a bad week. Ordered one item (they had six of in stock) last Thursday and it still hasn't arrived by the following Tuesday. Monday a week ago I did an order to B&H and received it on the Thursday. The package from vanbar only needs to come 30k. yes I have been hassling them on the email. May have been faster and would have been cheaper including postage to have gone B&H again.

I've just updated to a K-5 from DCW. I got the DA* 60-250 /F4 from Vanbar mid-year for $1269 (http://www.vanbar.com.au/catalogue/product.php?id=67534) and have been using it with a K20D for junior soccer. I find this lens better for quality than the DA 55-300/F4-F5.8. (It would want to be for the difference in cost.) It's nice to operate fully WR now - stood for 70 mins in drizzling rain with the K20D + DA* 60-250/F4.

Soccer season has ended so I've not used the K-5 + DA* 60-250/F4 for action yet. Roll on next year!

Dan.

Bob, you should have popped into Vanbar to pick up the item. Fortunately for me the North Melbourne store is a short walk away.

I bought the 60-250mm from B&H when I was over there for a song. And I love it! The only * lens I have but it is making me seriously consider getting the 16-50mm (even though I know the risks...).

I cannot see how Pentax Australia can have an announcement that is ahead of the rest of the world. The announcement would have to be a distribution type change. Still, there are plenty of things that we would all like to see announced, but alas , they could not have the resources to develop all that is on the wish list.
