Pentax DSLR price drop. What does it mean?

Recently Pentax made a huge price drop for DSLRs.

What does it mean?

Is this a sign of new Pentax DSLRs coming this autumn? Or simply Hoya want to boost sales and make larger profit in last days before handing over Pentax to Ricoh?

Your thoughts are welcome

My guess is clearing stocks before all the goods are handed over to Ricoh with no income for Hoya.

My hope is for K-3 with 24 megapixelsensor in october!

If that's true, I hope I can find some problem-free K5 at a good price by then...

Ron is currently selling his K-5 for EUR 550. How's that for a nice price on the 2nd hand market?

Wow Asahiflex, you have quite a great collection of lenses. As for the K-5, it could be selling out stock to make room for the new or for last minute profits, or it could be that's just what the market price has become for the camera. The D7000 is less than 1200 right now.

I'm hoping for a mid-winter K-3 release. :-)

I suspect the just-selling-off-Hoya-stock theory is right though.

I'm also guessing it's for the transition to Richol, but I couldn't resist the lower price!

I think it means you should get your K-5 before they set the price up for good, launch a new body, and let it sell at the higher price until stock runs out

I haven't heard any info about an upcoming FF body, but there's no doubt that toward the end of the year we'll start hearing about a new K-mount body as expected.

I don't know the reason but I'm glad they're doing it. I bought my brand new K-5 for a second hand price. I did however notice a sharp price spike on some lenses.

Would love to see this in the UK, no signs of price drops at all sadly...

It probably means that Pentax have sold about as many bodies as they're likely to at price X and are now working on prospective customers who will only pay Y. To keep production going. To retain existing owners and get new ones. To put pressure on competitors or respond to competitors' pressures.

It's probably just standard offer management although it's fun to speculate on some hidden meaning. Funny, though: no matter how we stir the tea leaves the answer is always FF to some.

I believe it means you take less money out of pocket to buy one and that's all the story. Jesus...pentaxians....must be something dark and hidden behind everything!

The truth is probably that those are all refurbished models (cleaned from the stained sensor problem)
