Does this mean that Ricoh is getting into the D.S.L.R. market? I still have my first Ricoh S.L.R. ,a KR5 Super 2.
They are already in it as of October 1st. I highly doubt they will ever release a 35mm DSLR under the Ricoh name.

My first SLR was a Ricoh KR5. I've still got it.

Am I the only one reading this combination oddly?
Hoya: HOYA CORPORATION|News Release

HOYA will continue to develop other businesses taken over from PENTAX Corporation when it was merged into HOYA on March 31, 2008, including lens modules for digital cameras, DVD pickup lenses, medical endoscopes, artificial bones, and speech synthesis. Medical endoscopes, artificial bones, and speech synthesis will continue to be operated under the “PENTAX” brand.

By forming the new company, Ricoh will strive to further bolster consumer products and services, in addition to its existing digital camera business.

Business: Manufacture and sales of optical equipment such as digital cameras, binoculars and lenses for security cameras

I couldn't image Ricoh continuing DSLRs and not lenses for them, but meanwhile why would Hoya mention lenses for digital cameras? ???

The so-called "lens modules for digital cameras" are for (non-Pentax) compact cameras.

I am fondling my partial set of Ricoh M42 macro tubes at this very moment. And a full set of Spiratones. I have no Pentax tubes, so the Ricoh tubes will have to do for now.

I almost bought a Ricoh-made SLR yesterday, but only for the Cosina-made 50/1.7 lens (PKM mount). But US$15 just seemed too high a price. I skipped on the K1000 + M50/2 also.

I've had a bunch of Ricoh-made SLRs, at least one with the Ricoh name on it. (All the rest said Sears of Focal.) Nothing wrong with them, I just didn't need yet another PK body.

Those are my old Ricoh experiences. I await new experiences. I also expect some real attention-grabbing announcements soon. Ricoh, don't let us down! Don't tease me, bro!

Ricoh - I don't know much about them. We have a bunch of Ricoh copiers at work, and they seem to do a really good job of all the copying, faxing, scanning, and printing needs. I hope this favorable performance can carry over to the dealings with Pentax.

Maybe not, indeed. Nice find, Asahiflex.
Ricoh would have changed the name of their own Subsidiary already?
Or they created one but they would have said so openly wouldn't they ?

Well, yes.
I think that locks it in - the next Pentax WILL be called the K-Y.

Not a merger, a takeover. Hoya Corp bought Pentax Corp in May 2008. Hoya stripped off the lucrative medical imaging business from Pentax and sold the camera business to Ricoh Corp. The sale became effective yesterday, 1 Oct 2011. Great changes with Pentax are expected.
