So much speculation, so little fact. In time (not long now), all will be revealed

RE: 1.25x sensor and SR's motion and DA/DA* lenses...

... let's not foget they very well could allow one to configurably operate in 1.5x/10Mpx mode w/a DA lens, and 1.25x/14Mpx mode if you are using a full frame lens... Very easily I would imagine.

Why are we still have these wild speculations when we have users right here who have TOUCHED and HANDLED the prototypes K20D?

It's

APS-C!

Once again, say it after me:
A.... P.... S....- C.....

Get it?

Tamron's goal now is to move their entire lens line over to Image Stabilized lenses so this is likely why Pentax and Sony will get left out since they have anti shake bodies.
That's a strange thing to say actually. If the lens has IS in it, it can be used on a camera with body IS perfectly well. Just don't turn on BOTH IS systems, and you'll be fine. This can be tested on Olympus E-510 camera with Leica lenses that have Mega OIS system in them. Here is the article about this - Olympus E-510 with Leica D 14-50mm - Double stabilisation or double trouble

As for 1.25x... Right now Pentax has two cameras - K100 and K10. While old players, Nikon and Canon, have 3+ models in different niches, like Canon D400, D40, D5, 1D mk III. Pentax COULD introduce 1.25x crop camera, but that will be extremely unwise to make K20D 1.25x, because not all DA, Tamron DI II and other lenses that work with K10D will work with K20D. So instead of making not-fully-comaptible with it's predecessor K20D they probably will intorduce something like K2D, with new 1.25 crop and set a higher price to it.

As for me personally, I'd be very disappointed to recieve 1.25 instead of 1.5, because that will shorten the EFR of lenses, and I like tele-shooting...

But the body must support the technology in the lens, the body needs to be designed for the technology the lens have. Pentax current bodies does not support in-lens shake reduction.

OK Steve. I know you are under a NDA, but just answer me this. Is this thing going to knock our socks off, or what???

That depends what you would consider knocking your socks off. That is a very subjective analysis. I think it will for most users considering the competition.

Hi Ben
Yeah, I know it is subjective, but I was thinking of the following areas.

Compared to the K10D, for features, handling, improved AF (not that the 10D is bad, mind you), P-TTL improvements, and general IQ improvements.

I love the K10D. If there's no other changes but the new sensor provides workable ISO 6400, I may never wear socks again.

What about a Kodak developed sensor?

While in the realm of speculating, has anyone considered the possibility of the new K20D sensor being a Kodak CMOS development using their new low noise/low light patents?

Yes this has already been suggested, of course.

Well let me suggest that it might be because, while they are surely nice and honest people, at the end of the day they are just other Pentax users and PentaxForum posters, who say they have seen and/or touched the new products... not the fount of all knowledge, nor for that matter official Pentax spokespersons issuing official Pentax statements. Until those official announcements happen - hopefully by the end of January - you won't have much luck insisting that people stop speculating.

Oh, sure! Speculate away, by all means! I love speculations as well. There many other aspects and features of the camera we can make guesses about. But as for the sensor, it is 14MP CMOS APS-C sensor - very little doubt about that.

I don't see any technical barrier at all. Just remove all the in-lens IS electronic circuitry for the Pentax mount, and the lens would still be fully functional with Pentax in-body SR. That's why what Lindy wrote did not make sense at all.

Its depends what holds your socks up It will put the cat among the pigeons in its price range just like the K10D. More than that I can't say because (a) I cant and (b) some people are never happy!
