Well, the K-5 came out in 2010, but all the same I guess it's a 2011 baby... Great news! I certainly would pick is as best entry level professional camera SYSTEM, with it's complete line of affordable, high quality APS-C lenses. That's why I switched to Pentax...

Takes a Licking...

I could not agree MORE. My K-5 this year has been through torrents of spray from Yosemite waterfalls, fallen into muddy pastures, tumbled down a rocky slope in Arches NP, and been through countless other scraps and scrapes (yes, an outdoors-loving klutz - bad combination) all without a hitch. It is my go-to grab-and-go w/ the 18-135 kit for running down the local trails to catch rainy/muddy post-storm sunsets, clouds and other not-for-normal-dSLRs goodies. It's built to be USED in the field and that's what brought me back to Pentax after a bit of a hiatus since I took my Super Program to China in the 80s (still going strong too btw!). Anything else and I'd probably have to stay away from photography haha

In the Arches picture below my K-5 is laying on the rock just outside view of the bottom frame after tumbling down the rock-strewn slope where I'm standing. What did I do after my $2K worth of camera lands on a rock - why, take it into the waterfalls to wash it off of course! :P

I was really surprised to see such a commercialized photography magazine give the K-5 an award, and it definitely deserves the award.

I am also really glad to see Rokinon get an award.

This is great news ! I think it is my next purchase. I was a bit on the fence with the uncertain future, but why would Ricoh sabotage a great product. With the 645D being recognized by TIPA and this, i think the future looks bright...

Great news, indeed! And well deserving. I can say with 100's of hours of brutal field tested certainty, that there is not other camera on the market more deserving of the title.

On another note... What an annoying website interface! I got so sick of the entire webpage switching, reloading, and repositioning every time I went to the next item. And with no ability to jump to the start or end or anywhere inbetween without just having to click that many times. All the navigating should be inside one page and effortless and quick. It took a genuine effort to stay engaged and not just navigate away. Classic marketing driven web design, that prioritizes stacking up your page views and click throughs over user experience, because you can quantify page views to advertisers. Even though I would argue that user experience will ultimately result in more, longer views with a higher level of engagement, even if you can't always show it on paper. I see this shortsighted, marketing/metric mentality way to much, and it drives me nuts.

Or the equivalent of a tropical storm in our part of the world. Just make sure a "blitz" doesn't fry your cam. But I guess it would not matter because you wouldn't be around to notice

Greetings
