you forgot the "!" at the end of the URL

in the example, the 1DS3 have 2,63x more pixel than the 350D, and it say the 1DS3 have noise reduce of 3db compared to the 350D for a same size print.

If you use DxO tools to compare the "3db" or difference, it's almost nothing in pure gain.

More over in a entry level DSLR a 16-18-20 mpx is a bit useless considering, say 95% oof the buyer wont do a print bigger than a sheet of paper with it.

considering all this i still rather like a better ISO than more Mpx.

whatever, my next dslr will have WR !

It's not all about printing, most photos are viewed on computers these days, or on HD TVs. Now the latter has ~2mp, but then a lot more megapixels can be useful for several reasons: If you scale down a 8mp image to 2mp, you get a better result than with native 2mp, and also, you get more freedom to crop. Suppose, for instance, that you got a wonderful shot of an animal, but you didn't have a long enough lens mounted, so you want to crop out the middle third of the image in both directions, i.e. you want to crop out 1/9 of the image. That leaves you with a measly 0.66mp if you used a K100D, but with a K-5, you get 1.77mp, which may look pretty good on that HD television set if it's a sharp shot.

This is pure, unadulterated speculation on my part, but maybe the 12MP Sony sensor is now basically impossible to get. AFAIK, the K-r is the only current camera still using it.
Is that not the same sensor that is in the Ricoh GXR A12 modules?

I believe so, yes, and the new Ricoh M-mount module. The 12mp Sony sensor isn't really that old, at all, even in digital camera terms! Besides, isn't the 6mp Sony sensor still being produced for Epson's RD-1x?

Love my K-r

I absolutely love my K-r, got it a few months ago at a great price, and so far no problems. I have added the 35mm f2.4, the 16-45mm, and the 18-135mm to the two kit lenses. My older Nikons are gathering dust as is my Panny zoomer.

The K-x existed from Q1 2010 to Q4 2010.
The K-r existed from Q4 2010 to Q4 2011.

It already one quarter over the K-x and there was a 2 quarter overlap between the two cameras. It wouldn't surprise me if Pentax announced another K-something for this niche in their product line up.

It is indeed a great camera, but I hope what replaces it looks better. The K-r was the worst looking Pentax DSLR... it reminded me of a conehead (or for UK readers, the Tefal guys).

Black Bodies Still Available

For what it's worth, K R bodies are still available from several sources, likely the existing (old) stock. Here's one, for $581;
NEW Pentax K-r 12.4 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body | eBay
Last month they were $542, IIRC.

Yes, the design was a miss - an unlucky mix of the well designed "feminine" K-x and the also well designed "masculine" K-5.

Pentax K-k ...

Bonjour,

For the Francophone community a product name like "K-k" would be great ... pronounced "ka ka" = "ca ca" in French = "merde" = sh*t, doo doo, crap, etc.

Also "Q-q" would be great, too ... and don't ask. Is this joke list never ending?

So presumably, you don't drive a Toyota MR2.

I just spoke with my contact at B&H and they said that the K-r has been completely discontinued.

He said that there's still a sizeable quantity of cameras in stock, but once they're gone, they're gone. For me this is a little hard to believe, but if it's true, then something new's gotta be in the works, right?
I hope they are not stopping this model as I hope to buy one next year, is this true?

I'm still trying to save up for this camera.
