It's the glass for me.

I come from an older school of action/wildlife/wedding shooters. The objective is not to take 87 shots in the hopes that one of them is the decisive moment; the objective is to learn your equipment so well that you can operate it without taking it from your eye, and anticipate the decisive moment, releasing the shutter that magic fraction of a second before the peak action that results in the shot at peak.

The k10d can produce excellent images. A properly exposed image from a k10d can be enlarged to about 16x20 inches successfully.

Now, I am trying to learn the feel of the camera (not the superb "this is a camera!" feel that it has, but the feel of the operation) so that I can operate it without having to look.

I will buy an used K10D after the announcemnt of the new gear. I hope by then it will sell for less than 400euros. Then, I will need a long lens weather sealed like the camera, I can't decide, for now, between the 60-250 zoom or the 300...

Well it looks like I won't be buying any of the new stuff any time soon!

I am ordering 2 Sigma 530 Super flash units soon along with light stands, umbrellas and a Sekonic flash meter, then I am broke!

Maybe in the second half of 2008 I will pick up the DA* 16-50 and if I am doing weddings,(read: making more money) a K20D.

I'll probably eat my words but I always stay on the hunt for glass. But there's very little I need now. I'd love a DA*16-50 that is as good as the 50-135 version but the first one I got showed terrible BF. So that's on the waiting list till I'm sure they have this corrected. Might look at a 10-17 sometime but the Sigma 12-24 has a 122 degree field of view and I don't use that lens enough as it is. There's a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 and a new/old A*300 somewhere in the mail so I'm pretty much set.

As for a new body, I know I still haven't mastered the K10D yet. I still have to think about some shots more than I'd like. High burst rates don't interest me and the AF does what I need on my lens collection. Now if the new body shoots ISO3200 like ISO 200 on the K10D and has a TTL sensor like my *istD....time to start chewing.

On second thought, I will probably leave out the Sigmas till after the announcement. I want to see if they will announce flash units. If they do, I will wait for them or just buy either Vivitar 285's or Pentax 360FGZ's as stand-in's.

funny, sitting looking at what I expect to earn next year and what my budget and priorities will be and then I see this thread.

I wont be buying anything until early march but #1 priority is to replace my laptop with a pc and buy a tablet, so then it depends on how things go, I would like to look at lenses first I think.

first a 70-200 / 60-250 class lens (i'd been hopeful for the tamron, but doesn't seem like it is going to happen, at least not in a hurry) so it is wait and see what the 60-250 is like, and how much it costs or whether sigma finally release. (the 50-135 looks great but not enough reach although if it is a really good year I'll buy it anyway for lba .

then either the 35 macro or a 50 macro (the voigtlander is a too long at times)

then I will look at either the new cam and an ultrawide zoom like the 12-24, but we dont have a cost on cam yet.

+ I hope to throw about $500-$1000 more into flashes / lighting. (I still hope pentax will release some wonderful macro flash system

going well, I'd also be interested in the 135-400 to see if it is better than the bigma at 400mm

and if things go really really well I'll get the three fa* limiteds later in the year of course it could be bad, and I dont get anything

As tempting as the K10D's successor will be, I can't justify buying a new camera this soon after getting the K10D. Part of the reasoning for going with a DSLR instead of a bridge last year was that it would not be necessary to get a new camera after just 18 months. Looks like I'll be skipping a generation.

I have to upgrade bodies before I do anything. I think the K10D may be the way I go just because it'll probably be even cheaper after the new ones are released (At least used) and I need something that will work with all these pretty new lenses there are going to be.

I think I'm just going to get a K10D for now from beach camera. Can't let it pass for the price. And also decide on which glass I'd like to have. Can't decide between these
Tamron 17-50 2.8 or Tamron 28-75 2.8
Pentax 35 2.0 or pentax 50 1.4

I'll wait a awhile for the price to go down before I go for the new K'insertnumbershere'D body.

That one's easy, since the 17-50 is not available in Pentax mount

IMO, the other one is easy, too.

I would go with the 50mm. Since it is already going to be doubling up an existing focal length you won't really be "extending" your bag to additional ranges. The 50mm is faster and from what I've used of it and seen from others, it's tack sharp.

I hope to get one within a few weeks.
