If full frame Pentax comes out then everyone's photos better instantly become fantastic! I guess I better not take a photo or buy gear until the future gets here...

Update them to DFA, DFA* would be the most likely with some new designs as well
not with any great speed though based on how fast the 645 lenses are being released / updated
Eddie, the problem I have with D FA lenses is they still don't aperture rings. It'd be nice to be able to update a lot of older, nice lenses to D FA, but I haven't bought one of those because I can't use them on my older film cameras. If Pentax starts building FF lenses (with FA in the name), I want aperture rings. Until then I'll continue to use FA.

I agree scrapping the Aperture rings screws with anyone who shoots older film gear.

it's common to drop now though

O rats, I wanted a baby sister (APS-H) and now we get a big baby brother!

Cross our fingers that it isn't to expensive.
It appears that Canon and Nikon will be raising prices on FF bodies, so Pentax might have some room. $3,000 sounds about right.

The rumor originator seems genuine enough, albeit using second-hand information. I think this is good news as a whole, and agree with falc that there may be some substance behind it. I personally would much rather a 24 MP over 36 MP sensor, so I'm hoping that's accurate as well.

As always I'm taking this with a hefty scoop of salt, but hey...here's hopin'!

Thanks John for letting us know.

I'm not sure they are directly raising prices as broadening asst. Sony is rumoured to have 3 upcoming (NEX, 24mp and 36mp). the D800 price is for a 36mp FF but Sony also is going to have a 24mp so it's possible there will be a D700 mkII or a lower price alternate in addition to moving the 800 up the line. Canon seems to be doing similar things with the video oriented DSLR they launched.
with All the rumoured products in the FF camp it's obvious there is some move towards shifting that market a bit. Ultimately i think enthusiasts and pros will move to FF as their main system with and apsc for backup, and apsC will move towards entry and MILC users who have different demands and needs
There have been loads of different formats that served the general consumer market over the years but the enthusiast pro market has largely been limited to a couple of (generally) expensive areas, high end 35mm (FF) and Medium format with a limited number of specialist large format shooters. Digital doesn't really change that much

Well I think that the 36mp sensor is for studiowork and thus appearing in the D800 while the 24mp would be for fast shooting hi-iso-performance like in a sportscamera and appearing in the D4(s). Sounds like Canon is putting the 1Dx with 18mp also in the sportssection. There is also a rumor about Canon and 32 mp and that would be the studiocamera like 6D.

Sounds good, but I guess that Pentax only brings out one camera.

The non-WR versions do. That's two out of three, unless I'm forgetting about some old one.

Yep, you're right. Thanks for keeping me on track. I guess I meant most new lenses don't have the ring, but you already knew that .

I suggest people read thom hogan's website today. He talks about Canikon catering to amateurs by upping pixel counts, while maintaining reasonable pixel counts on the pro FF models.

There is also some logic in it. When your main use is base iso-settings then the sensor can perform well with more megapixels. When you want to report on the Olympics then working at iso 6400 is just an average iso-setting where you want a better performance then camera's deliver at this moment.

Just looked into that Hogan guy, and I can considder myself a pro, since I wanted a baby sister (APS-H with 12-16 megapixel)

I don't really have a need for FF, but a 36MP sensor with 2x2 binning could make an amazing 9MP option for shooting in low light.
