And tenfold that much doom and gloom negative waves!

no company is going to tell you all the future plans, might as well just invite over the corporate spies from the competition for a beer and bs session

but i agree they need to make some announcements by CP+ with hints at the future to make people drool

Seriously, who brings a new camera to a trade show just to hide it behind his back? And why is no one else reporting having seen it?

My guess is that there is more than a little wishful thinking in this thread.
Because it's not actually being released yet? Because it's a proto-type being tested? Not saying this is what was happening but these are reasons it COULD happen. All that is known is what was seen and that is what was seen. And when it was noticed that it was being noticed, it was squirreled away.

It's only hard-core Pentax nerds like us that would even notice that it looked different than currently-out models.

They all do. Prototypes, behind closed doors, this is VERY common.

OK. Been away from my computer all day. What did Pentax announce? What did I miss? Must be something exciting.

No way large national chains with multiple locations and assortments to plan could plan their year any other way. For years I worked closely with our senior buyer at Eaton's (a large department store chain at the time) And he had generally seen a lot of the product launched at CES in Prototype form in Japan the Previous year. at CES they were nailing down Assortment decisions for fall and christmas and planning for the next round (and there would be some future prototypes in the back rooms). a lot of the new announcements they would have already made purchase commitments last fall if they are big

So why on earth would they bring a prototype to the show if they weren't planning on doing anything with it?..

to show to the buyers from the big retailers maybe. but not ready to actually announce since production may not be ready. Trade shows are not about the general public they are manufacturer to retailer outlets. largely you get a lot of smaller companies going to see the stuff the big guys have already seen and made decisions on. That's my CES experience anyway. When I went we already knew what we were buying for 80% of the assortment this is a firm things up show and a bit of a Party to be honest (some serious hangovers are looming there if they haven't kicked in already)

Its more likely they are careful WHO they show it to. They don't want the secret out too soon apparently... and as the old expression says "Loose lips sink ships." -

unless you can hold your breath for 4 weeks (CP+) I think you can exhale now

only 2 ILC cameras announced the D4 and the Fuji. as has been said CES is a P&S and Video show not a serious camera show. Olympus also has held the m43 to CP+ (the rumour is the pro model with WR etc)

Head to Sony, and you have to choose between lenses that are probably even more endangered than K-mount lenses (A-mount) or almost no lenses at all (E-mount) - so what would be the point...?
Or you can use your k-mount lenses with a Sony. Assuming you ain't afear'd of manyul focus ennyway.

I'm still horrified that the new Pentax ricoh booth is simply pimping the Rioch GXR modular stuff... I hope there is more.

Is this the theme for the new company.. pimp their old 'stuff' under the Pentax name..?
