Rather interesting situation....

K-r must had the replacement on September, 2011 - 1 year cycle
K-5 must had the replacement on November-December, 2011 - 1.5 year cycle

K-r is discontinued officially (see japanese pentax site)
K-5 is almost discontinued (or discontinued non-official)

I don't remember such situation before - no any new DSLR announcement, but old cameras are discontinued.
K-r's replacement delay is 3 month. K-5 is almost 2 month.

Today is January, 11, 2012. No any good rumors, no any news...CES is opened tomorrow...

Only Pentax Q and Pentax 645D are in production....

My worry is that Pentax must be losing customers and goodwill with so little to say about themselves. You can't carry on like this for long or you fade beyond the point of return. Retailers and third-party outfits aren't likely to be very interested in a manufacturer which can't deliver a solid line of products. It's all rather like thinking that if you stare hard enough at a corpse it may start to twitch. It's not as if Ricoh have really had "only" three months to work out what to do with Pentax. They've had years to work out what to do with a DSLR marque long before they actually acquired one, and probably an inside view of Pentax for longer than three months anyway. All very odd.

indeed, good points! Someone in a German Pentaxforum has, due to his job, some insights into pentax and said there would be number of new, very interesting lenses. But nothing more detailed, (business) as usual....

IMHO it also tells a lot about how they think of the American market. Maybe Pentax France is there just to teach Pentax USA some well-needed marketing lessons.

(Pentax France even is a shirt sponsor of a premier league soccer club in France).

Hey, I think I figured this out. They managed to grab a Fuji X1 Pro prototype and no wonder don't want anybody to see it!
Maybe. Except Fuji doesn't end with an X. There was a logo on the camera. And it ended with X.

NP. Indeed, the title is interesting I am hoping for the best and base my decisions on the worst scenario. Fortunately I am quite happy with my setup and there is no need to switch systems. Just recently I challenged my K5 against a 5D....

Well other camera's with the 16 megapixel sensor from Sony are also hard to get. Maybe it is just having access to this sensor in quantitys is one of the problems. K-5 uses it and K-r replacement should also (probably).

On the other hand I still think that moving the productionfacility for camera's is maybe the main issue.

Don't all cameras these days end with an X? Or at least have an x in them?

the sensors i think has been the big delay on a lot of fronts. Aside from the D4 (which is still a couple of months off) Nikon has announced virtually nothing. Sony has been quiet and the new product they did announce is very hard to get.)
sure there are other Sensors out there, but in all likelihood they have been developing products based on projected sensors from Sony. you can't just say once something is developed (or close to) oops i think i'll grab a different sensor and slap it in the same space

Zackspeed used to post here too. I believe he works for some retailer who also sells Pentax.
