I'm looking at this and thinking...
could go either way.....
the latch does not negate the possibility of a gasket underneath it...
I got a kr and a k10 to look at and it seems doable..

im not particularly sure if i like it or not yet. Its not that much smaller than my K-r and DA 40mm, and that has a viewfinder. Im not particularly sure how many people are going to want a 40mm camera either.

i wonder what the image quality will be like compared to the Limited?

The lens really ruins it. It's probably the ugliest lens ever made.

The rim around the glass is big enough to have a built in lens cap though, sort of twist the focus ring past the end and it covers the lens. At least that would have been cool but I don't think the function is there.

Anyhow, no distance markings on the lens. I wonder if that is due to design style, or due to a new focus mechanism?

we don't know for certain that it doesn't have a view finder yet, do we? IMO it would be so much better with an EVF

Oh come now. You were pessimistic long before you even saw the design.

Just doesn't look like something that I would like. Have to see what autofocus/other performance is, but unless they have made big strides with contrast auto focus since the K5, I think it will be a step back from the kr performance-wise.

Edit: Just trying to figure out the selling points for this camera as compared to a kr. Not sure. Just a little smaller size? Lack of any viewfinder? Sounds like price will be the same. Unless there is performance improvement otherwise, it just doesn't seem that great.

it's the DA 40 limited they just eliminated the recessed bit around the element the rear cap will be bigger than the lens.
Distance markings look like they went away for the size too. not an issue AFAIAC since i'm not likely to zone focus an AF lens and since i won't be using it with ir film on a 35mm no need for those markings either. If it means I get a lens that duplicates the DA 40 for half the price i can live with it

oh sorry, I'm being an idiot. i thought that you meant focal length markings. I was thinking that if the sensor moved, that would be the effective same as zooming.

doesn't matter, sorry

i guess its just cos its so thin they won't fit on

the more i look back at the yellow one the more it appeals to me (I have a yellow leather covered Fed 5 that is uglier than this by far and is one of my favourite cameras )

Quick and dirty size comparison. K-r + 40mm. Resized based on the 40mm lens, assuming both have roughly the same diameter.
Of course a lot of things are wrong in the image, but it's just to get an idea.

Yes, they probably went away for size reasons. It COULD also be because of a new focusing mechanism where the ring doesn't move when AF is used and thereby making distance markings on the ring impossible. Not likely though.

from those images, it does look thinner than the stated 59mm to me, which is definitely a good thing. the smaller the better IMO when it doesn't have a view finder and still takes K mount.

its almost pocketable looking- more so than the Q, cos the Q with a lens attached is a weird shape

it would explain the part about it not being compliant with DSLRS though
