That is probably...

it is clutching very wildly though
That is probably part of JFK's head, man.

I rather like the idea of an accessory port in which various modules (EVF, GPS, etc.) can be swapped in and out.
Not in a camera as large and heavy as a K-01. Or at least not in a way where an EVF adds bulk.

Can someone explain why Leica can make an M9 which is about as thick as the old rangefinders, while all the dslr cameras (at least from Pentax) are so thick compared to their film predecessors?

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd always assumed an SLR lens when mounted on a D-SLR focuses on the sensor to exactly the same distance behind the rear lens element as it did when on a film body. Does the lenses used on that body require the same distance behind it to focus?

In Pentax case it is SR causing a lot of the thickness in digital over film.

Good point, yes, but why then not drop that feature for a camera supposedly compact? The old film cameras, coupled with pancakes, would be unique if revived in digital. (Perhaps a second body should be developed). Someone should mount that new lens to an old KX, or MX. While it would probably be slightly thicker because a sensor is not film-thin, it would be amazing if we could get closer to that.

Meanwhile, a poll has opened, but is not yet accessible. We're getting closer. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-01-forum/173722-official-k-01-styling-poll.html

An *istD is thinner actually than its thin film *ist counterpart. Current Pentax SR causes about 10mm extra depth. Note that some dSLRs are thickest at their grip now.

Hmm, the LX was 5cm thick. Add 1cm for SR ad you're there indeed. They just did not look that thick, but were.

@everybody hoping for an EVF (still) ...

I guess Adam and esp. Frank (who released the photos from the press kit we have seen so far) have seen a rear side photo. And Frank said "no EVF" (at his site clubsnap). Unlike Adam, he made an unambiguous statement here. No EVF.

Except if Frank has no rear side photo (which he has though as we have seen snippets) or if he is paid by Pentax to mislead us (extremely unlikely), then there is no chance the K-01 has an EVF. I dropped my hope for one.
I know Frank personally and he's been a pillar for the Pentax community here with his knowledge, forum moderation and leadership in organizing monthly outings.
Being a small place, we (ie. he) also have pretty direct access to the local distributor (probably 40mins to their office from anywhere in the country), so not just hearsay or fake rumors, but pretty straight info from the horse's mouth for stuff the distro is willing/can divulge.
He's a nice and straightforward guy.
No hidden meaning or agenda.

So no EVF just means no EVF.
I guess those waiting for an EVF version probably can wait a bit more for the rumored later year releases to see if anything else comes out.

Personally, I'd put the K-01 into '2nd tier' shopping cart and see what comes later in the year, before deciding on purchase.
Thats the plan anyway (but the WANT disagrees... )

I've posted this before, but in case nobody's seen it, here's how much thicker Pentax dSLRs have gotten over the years:

And here's how it compare to an M43 camera (Oly E-P1 in this case)

If Pentax can shave off just half of the added thickness of the K-x when designing the K-01, they'll be within spitting distance of Micro Four-Thirds...

I got a very big laugh outta this... Anyone notice the banner add at the bottom of Adam's countdown page?

A link to a Zacuto Z-Finder EVF

It sure does look like there 'could' have been room for one in that hump, given the size of the body. But guess not. We'll know in just over 8 hrs why not.

That was weird!

Photo rumors had the pricing info, and then it disappeared!

$750 for the body
$900 for the body and the Da40xs
$1000 for the kit lens of 18-55mm and 50-200mm
