The MFT's is a nice system but their sensor can't match the K-5 sensor and the lenses don't match the DA limiteds. This is by no means a perfect product but I think this a strong entrance into the APSC MILC market. And I think the choices made set Pentax up nicely for future products.
As an owner of the Panasonic 20/1.7 and the Olympus 45/1.8 as well as the DA 21, 35 Macro, 40, and 70 Limiteds, I'd say that those M43 lenses are very very good indeed. And the GH2 is pretty good too.

Pentax K-01, Ugliest Camera Ever - Rangefinderforum.com

Which I think is a good sign, as a camera that appeals to them is not likely to appeal to the camera's target audience.
I will re-iterate ... Put a Pentax-A 50mm f/1.4 on it as an example (or any on of a few hundred other lenses) and the whole package will look dramatically better. It's that big blank 'black washer' over the lens that's detracting from the looks the most. Don't know why they had to make it look that bad if you look at the starting point of the DA 40.

From what I have seen on prints, I have to agree with you. Difference in IQ is to me very small, if noticeable at all. Having said that, DA 35 macro and Da70 are rather tough to beat.

In a short while the street price may be about that. But rapidly approaching the price of Q. So maybe not.
At least the Q will drop another $100 or so (more?) dollars after this.

Yup, as I said too - nothing a Super Takumar 50/1.4 can't fix....

When I can walk into B&H or Adorama and walk out with it at that price, I may buy it.

It is going to take a while for that, I suspect.

I've no doubt it will be at least K5 standard for images, but hoping it will be better than that (eg. no AA filter).

BTW, someone on my local forum photoshoped the K-01 with a more proper sized lens and its really fits and look good.

This whole concept reeks of compromise.

Yes, that would do nicely... now someone photoshop a DA10-17 FE or a DA 12-24 on it.. I'm sure there'll be a few who could epoxy a DA15 Ltd to it as well..

PENTAX Announces the K-01?a More Powerful Mirrorless Camera

Focus peaking
Shutter max 1/4000th
1080p at 30fps, 720p 60fps Also has h.264... Sounds good.
6fps
ISO range... doesn't show 80 or 51200, probably still in there.
Has an "aluminum frame" but doesn't mention exterior material.
No mention of a VF, expected...
