Sure, but 2,3 and 4 could be solved with a minor update to the existing Liveview functionality on a DSLR. So the only thing that remains is "smaller", but the DSLRs are already very compact and you still have to retain the required flange-sensor distance so it can't get much smaller than them.

Don't want to sound all negative here since I like the design and I like Pentax glass (and will be buying a mirrorless this year, though not sure what). But I don't really "get" it.
#1?
K-01: 121 x 79 x 59 mm
K-5: 131 x 97 x 73 mm (might be the only one with environmental seals)
ist Ds: 125 x 93 x 66 mm
ist D: 129 x 95 x 60 mm

Nice, now if there is only a battery grip attachment.. I can see this cam being hard on batteries, and being smaller, I want some more meat to hold onto anyways Battery Grip with wi-fi or at least an expansion SDHC card slot.. not just a damn holder!

So it is a little bit smaller than the D/Ds, but compare to say the Samsung NX200 which is 116x62x36mm for instance. It is firmly in the compact DSLR size category rather than the current mirrorless cams,

I don't see what it offers above and beyond a DSLR with the same specs.

For me the K-01 looks like the perfect camera that I could slip into any bag I carry so finally I could have a camera with me at all times. I have a little compact for this as well, but it's just too much of a step down from the K-5 (and previous DSLRs). The K-01 could change this completely.

However, I wouldn't put the DA40/2.8XS lens onto it. For me the perfect lens to go with this would be the DA21/3.2 limited. Strange none of the photoshopped images includes this perfect street shooters lens.

Anyway... still waiting to see the full back of the camera. Though I don't expect any surprises...

Well 6 FPS is a sad statement considering the K-5 can do 7 FPS.. But if it can do 6 FPS until the SD card is full (or at least 60 frames) then you have a winner! Lack of TAv mode is disappointing as well, of all non-M modes, that's the one I actually DO use.

I think a good street photography ninja with a DA21/DA40XS/DA70 trio would be happy with the K-01.. but lack of EVF could be a problem.. Hotshoe EVF/OVF.. hell I could imagine even a set of iron sites

It's just a few hrs left, but for some reason the back of the camera is not shown yet. What if the display, if not articulated, but, at least, tilts up (or down) from vertical to horizontal position? Something quite important is hidden in a back and still uncovered yet.

It really doesn't. I actually measured my ist Ds just now and the extra "depth" is from having a deeper handgrip so the K-01 is virtually the same size except with about half of the viewfinder hump chopped off.

Compared to the built-from-the-ground-up mirrorless cameras, on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being SLR, 10 being NEX) this thing is a 1.5.

Agreed... well, important or embarassing.

I have all apendages crossed hoping there is an awesome surprise back there.

The "boxed volume" of the K01 is only 73.5% of the Ds. I'd say that is more than a little bit. Can't wait to get my hands on one, I think it will feel smaller than it looks on pictures.

Of course, but to a point.
I already have good focus hit rates using my K5 with LV and a hood-loupe.
But, if you notice, the DSLR implementation is really clunky with the mirror having to go down and then up again for taking a shot.
Totally unusable for anything that moves.
It probably has to to with the mirror/shutter mechanism which won't be solved via firmware and will need a re-design of the mechanism to work otherwise (if possible)

The actual difference is far less than 26.5%. Most of the extra box volume of the Ds comes from the viewfinder hump that makes it taller and the hand grip which curls outwards toward the front. The K-01 is not much different in actual size and volume from the Ds.
