Thanks Gimbal for the comparison. Now I see how the camera works. Didn't realize it went into the top of the camera.

Your commentary doesn't make sense. You're comparing a rumoured mirroless camera with a digital reflex.

It's a new thing, altogether. Just because it uses the same sensor, means nothing.

He invented that mockup Bob. That isn't official in any way.

Jeez, someone has to put RUMOR in bold somewhere in this thread, or lock it before it grows beyond control.

In which manner is the thread currently under control?? Nothing left to lose, my friend.

What's the new thing?

That it use the same sensor actually means they will probably use most of the same hardware and therefore firmware, why design new if you have a design you can already use?
This way they cut down cost and testing and only design en new body and the EVF.

So if the rumours are true it is basically a K5 but with an EVF in a smaller body, so why is it a bad thing to compare it with a k5... does it make different photos?
it isn't that much smaller either...

The extra winning feature for me would be a rotating screen.
Rotating screen.., so a screen that goes from portrait to landscape, what is the use of that if i may ask?

It is considerably smaller, it's even smaller than a K-x.

I hope it is what you say, a K-5 in MILC format, but I am expecting to see a single dial, no WR and basic controls. IOW, a K-r in MILC form, with K-5 sensor and rear LCD. Later I expect a K-r body, with K-5 sensor and LCD.

It's missing some features of the K5 too.

- It only has 1/4000 shutter speed.
- Contrast AF only. (ssslllooowww)

Suppose we all just waited 2 weeks to see the actual (rumored) camerabefore we declare our impressions of its feature set and capabilities. This thread would be about 30 posts.

So it sounds like the sensor and LCD are the same as the K-5. But if this camera have a maximum shutter of 1/4000 sec, then it's not using the K-5 shutter (1/80000) or the K-r (1/6000). Perhaps an electronic shutter? That would save space, wouldn't it?

I assume he means articulating display, where the screen can fold out and swivel on one axis in the same manner as a camcorder for self portraits, framing photos holding camera above head in a crowd, etc.

Yeah, basically a K-5... without pretty much everything that goes inside it. Mirror, pentaprism, PDS, probably even the curtain shutter.

Nikon uses the same Sony sensor of the K-5. Why buy a K-5 then? Does it make different photos?

See what I just did here?

If the rumours are true, I think it's very likely. The supposed "XS" on the new lens could mean leaf shutter, for faster speeds.

A leaf shutter that fast would likely create some serious vignetting.
