I'm so surprised that there is no images of the so called "K-01" leaked yet.

That's because the K-01 is weather sealed. No water can seep in, and no pictures can leak out

Indeed, but stating "the K-01 works with every Pentax AF K-mount lens" would then be false.
Yes, but then it's "name" would be false either...

Yea, but this still doesn't make sense. It says "FA lenses . . with the exception of few models." The K-F mount has a single lens from 30 years ago -- not a collection of "models". I highly doubt the statement refers to that particular lens or mount. Of course, it may refer to nothing as just a rumor anyway.

Maybe they just don't support power zoom on the very few FA PZ lenses?

THis look like is trully the replacement of the K-R. By making a complete change in the model or from , that could explain also why production line stop earlier for retooling for that new line
The K-01 is not the K-r replacement. The GM of Pentax UK said it is "inevitable" that a successful line like the K-r will be replaced. I simply cannot believe that he means it will be replaced by a totally different class of camera (MILC vs DSLR) with a new and unproven design concept.

Regarding the discontinuation of the K-r with no replacement announced, this is common practice in manufacturing. You stop the line, retool, start making new product so that you're ready to sell when the existing supply runs out. Timing of the announcement is affected by inventory of old and new, and competitive factors. For example you may want to time the announcement with a prestigious event like a camera show, or you may want to scoop a competitor's announcement, etc. What you don't want to do is run out of product to sell, or harm the pricing on the outgoing camera too early.

Note also that hanging out in camera forums means you hear things long before the public. If you go into a shop today to look at Pentax, you won't likely be told the K-r is discontinued and most potential customers wouldn't have this news.

At this point we don't know what it is. If they did bring in a consumer products designer and are offering it in several colors then it is probably around the same price point as the K-5. The rumors of the rubberized coating make it sound like a cross between their adventure P&S and a K-r.

This thread has almost 1,000 posts for what looks like a new high end P&S. I don't understand the excitement. None of the other companies with legacy glass (Olympus, Sony/Minolta) have been able to get CDAF to work very well with the older AF lenses. Fuji didn't even try. I don't have high hopes that Pentax has outdone anyone in AF.

What do you see of the K-r in the K-01?

Pentax needs to announce something and quickly get it into stores. The K-r's availability is drying up in the US. B&H and Adorama no longer list it on their websites. Customers looking for an entry-level DSLR therefore wind up buying something from Pentax' competition.

The new rumored mirrorless might not be a direct replacement for the K-r but could be used as a substitute.

the power zoom models also have limited functionality with modern cameras as the contact for the zoom is now the sdm contact if i am not mistaken. this may well be what was meant

The outside of the mount itself could, if it projects a few cm past the body, have a manual focus ring with electronic linkage to the lens. Having the XS lens mounted *within* the throat of the lens mount might allow it to be really well sealed as only the front element would be exposed...

XS = eXtremely Sealed? Digital Nikonos? The rubber coating and rumoured deep recessing of the kit lens suggests this model might be beyond 'ruggedised'....
this is starting to sound like a G700 in some ways (it's a rubberized brick too)

seriously, what's wrong with rubber like material? Does it affect ISO performance? Does it affect menu speed, external controls and burst mode? If not, please STFU. I am tired of reading that total spam about how you hate pentax new camera which is even only rumoured and no one knows if these rumours are worth a penny. If you are so unhappy, so unlucky with pentax, go and sell everything and buy Canikon like the rest of the world.
LOL. Pentax can make a camera weatherproof. They can make a camera foolproof. But they can't make a camera PentaxForumsproof!
