So that 6 months from now Pentax can release a limted edition, all black model and charge a couple hundred dollars more for it... at least that's what I would do

Compared to the old K-cameras this seems to offer much less and nothing more. And the previous interchangeable lens camera release from Pentax was Q - and even it is more interesting to me that this, if the specs hold up. I don't like the direction Pentax has been lately at all, but at least it is difficult to predict what the next move will be. Hopefully something for us average folks as they've now made bodies for midgets and weight lifters.

Agree. This means that it better not be pricey. But considering how expensive Q is, it has to be somewhat pricey. This is going to be tricky.

It would be interesting for someone with strong photoshopitsu (NOT ME!) to do a size comparison of the k-01, k-r, and k-5.

The camera is not a thing of beauty. The design of the 40mm lens bothers me - it is simply hideous - it spoils the look of the camera because the ring is too big and out of proportion to the glass pupil. The lens reminds me more of an orifice, not an eye as I think it should.

Does the lens come with a supplied hood? A hood would make it look better.

I like the "K" and "Pentax" lettering style; for the rest, I'll reserve judgment on its operation until I've handled the camera.

I think the 40mm we have right now will look a whole lot better on it.

Does anyone hang out at other camera forums for other brands and formats? Is anyone there expressing any interest in this camera? That's a key test, as cameras like the Fuji X1Pro and Sony NEX-7 were drawing curious eyes from all photographers not just the brand loyal ones.

Many say it is ugly. That is what I observed from 4 sites I regularly visit.
