There is also the possibility that this is just a GXR module like the GXR Mount A12.

(...).
I very much doubt that because of the specified weight.
  • Ricoh GXR body + A12 M mountor + battery + card weights only 370 grams.
  • With the heaviest lensor (A12 50mm f/2.5) Ricoh GXR weights 463 grams.
  • K-01 is said to weight 560 grams without lens.

It seems to me, regardless of if it wins over current Pentax customers, the purpose of something like this is to bring in new customers to the brand.
Any new mirrorless announcement seems to be much more heavily hyped than the equivalent SLR so it makes sense to highlight all those existing and lovely Limited primes, which are still a unique Pentax selling point.
Ricoh really needs to invest in marketing and awareness though, I don't know about the rest of the world, but it's hard to find a Pentax camera to actually test in person in most camera shops, never mind the lack of print or web advertising. I only invested in Pentax coming from a Canon 7D and it's the K-5 is an amazing camera that needs more people to know about it!

That and most people thought (rightly or wrongly) that the Q was a bit of a joke... it'd be good to banish that feeling.

I'll be unlikely to buy whatever the new mirrorless turns out to be, as the K5 is already so compact as far as SLRs go, but anything that attracts (positive) attention to the brand as a whole can only be a good thing.

Its a Kr replacement at most, so I'm not surprised at the lower spec vs a K5.

The doom and gloom doesn't end does it
Everyone seems to want his own version of a camera (get a RED)

Certainly a step in the right direction to address the MILC market and replace the aging Kr.
A Kr with a K5 sensor is already a formidable camera if it was made, so I'm sure this one is no slouch.

The 'kit lenses' interest me.
I wonder if they really will be cost reduced (ie. plastic) versions of the DA ltds.
I'd buy them if they are, but would be a bit disappointed that it means Pentax under Hoya was never given a chance to design/make new lenses.

I now believe that this rumor is at least partially fake, as there is not an X in the name of the product id. Now if it was called the Pentax KX-1, or the K1-X, or even the XKx-1x, I'd be more of a believer.

Unless, of course, the company is changing its name to PentaX.

For tiny dimensions - Pentax Q.
No thanks. Something closer to the NEX (and with a real sensor to boot) would be preferable.

will our pentax lenses AF on this?

and more importantly, will it blend?
Since it has a K in the name, then I'm guessing that implies a K-Mount.

Only thing I take away from it is that it's a K-5 in a slightly-smaller-than-kr body.
LOL
No way to mount M lenses or no SR are stoppers for me.
Pentax managed to do everything wrong

I don't see any logic to compare mythical K-mount camera (not even announced) with GXR modules...

Flange focal distance
Sony E-mount 18 mm
Pentax K-mount 45.5 mm

The Sony NEX-7 weighs 291 grams so this can't weigh 560 grams unless that is with kit zoom lens.

Look at your URL. Don't you realize you're on a Pentax-forum? Are you seriously surprized Pentax issues a camera with a Pentax mount?!? It's about the ONLY thing Pentax did right.

Sounds cool.
I don't know that I'd rush to pick one up unless there were definite gains in resolution etc. Though I was set to pick-up an NEX-7 too until I got to the store and took for one a test drive. Played with it for about 30 mins. put it back in the box and said, thanks, but no thanks.

Guess it's time to admit it. I'm a DSLR man
