What makes you think this would be the new "main" body ? If this rumoured mirrorless K-mount camera actually comes to market, I expect it to replace the K-r (note that "trickling down" the flagship sensor to the next generation of entry-level is expected).

It's all the other stuff in modern DSLR's that make them so big. Pentax has shown that they are the best in the industry at miniaturization, you can argue if you want but they sure made the Q small.
Exactly. So if they really have managed to make a K-mount camera that is only 49mm thick, I think it might be very interesting indeed. This camera, if the specs are true, would be just 6 millimeters thicker than the X-Pro1 and much smaller in the two other dimensions. The given weight is a bit higher than I would expect, though.

Well the apsc milc rumour has been around since before the Q and there was always 2 mentioned when pentax and MILc were mentiond. the specs sound pretty damn realistic and true to pentax's style so why not

Sony didn't their job well with NEX-7. 3 wheels are OK, but AF control that mimics SLR approach is the dumbest thing they could do and this ruins MF experience although it's still superior over any APS-C DSLR.

Let's hope you're right! And that they'll have a more serious camera underway. They did claim they'd focus more on the pro/prosumer market in their letter to Adam. And the camera in this rumor is the opposite of that.

I for one am looking forward to it and hope the rumors are true.
I'm excited for a milc that natively supports our k-mount lenses.

NEX-7 is particularly light. Do not forget this K-01 has to embark a motor to focus current K-mount kit lenses.
Motor + shake-reduction + possibly, WR... 560 grams. it makes sense.

I agree, it's a designed by engineers for the challenge thing, not designed by photographers for the usability. some neat features (like the focus peaking system) but way way way too thin to approach anything near good ergonomics AFAIAC

Sony hasn't been a market design leader in a long time. they still make some excellent tech that other people use well (like the sensor rumoured here)

-4, -14, - 7 mm.

It's VERY GOOD...Rather small for K-mount.

*ist DS was very small for me.

Samsung NX11
123 x 87 x 40 mm, 499 gramm

Olympus E-420
130 x 91 x 53 mm
I'm mostly interested in the size vs K-x:

K-x: 123 x 92 x 68 mm, 580g
K-01: 121 x 79 x 59 mm, 560g

Lookin' good! And probably not as lumpy.

Nice comparison. The size is smaller than a K-x and it doesn't have the mirror box - so the weight may be a result of weather sealing? So far its sounding good - we should know more based on the initial story in the next 2 weeks or so.

From the looks of it, this will be the entry-level K-mount camera under the K-r replacement. It makes sense. Take out the expensive mechanical bits and put in an EVF (or just the LCD + addon EVF).

So I personally think Pentax will move toward 4+ active K-mount cameras in their lineup.

I think making their entry level k-mount a mirrorless is a smart move.

The only negative I see again is the maximum 1/4000th shutter speed, but that is expected in an entry level (and mirrorless) camera.

So I'd say don't expect WR and expect it to look ...cute... like the K-r series of cameras with colors and such.
