Could be a combo, like the Nikon D70.
It isn't...
With the leaf the flash sync is 1/2000 with internal flash and 1/250 with external.
But with the electronic shutter the speed is 1/13.

ps. this about the Q which was the question about.

Would this be the starting point for the K-01 that Marc Newsom updated and reinterpreted?

"Ricoh will offer characteristic compact cameras under its own label, while trying to bring the Pentax brand on par with Nikon Corp. and Canon Inc. in interchangeable-lens cameras" , Ricoh President Shiro Kondo said.

.
Could be. One of the blurbs I read said that Ricoh had allowed Pentax to dust off some old projects that were shelved by Hoya. There's probably some of that ugly old thing in the new K-01.

Indeed.

Define OVF. The light comes through the lens, is reflected partially off a mirror onto the back of the VF screen. You look through a lens and prism, and see the image on the screen.

I'll define OVF differently. It is the ability to see exactly what the lens is seeing. With some small enhancements to improve composition and focus.

At one point the digital sensor to presenting a photo path surpassed what film could do with increasingly rare exceptions.

The problems with EVF is speed and resolution. At one point the capabilities of EVF will surpass an OVF, except with rare exceptions.

Not certain if the technology is there yet.

I understand your comparison between digital vs film and EVF vs OVF. The difference between the two is that digital can and now does outperform film resolution. But the pixels of a EVF can never outresolve the real image that's displayed in the OVF. And they can never be faster then the real image. Moreover, they can never be more energy-efficient or as sustainable as the real image / OVF.

With digital vs film, it was a question of time. But with EVF vs OVF it's a impossibility. It's compromising lots of advantages for a little gain in size. A little space inside a camera in which I can't even place my pinky. It's big price to pay, in several kinds of currency, for a very little gain.

Again I don't disagree. Having gone through the nuisance of replacing and adjusting my K5 focus screen, the old system is made up of a large series of compromises as well. And what we see in the viewfinder is what the focus screen shows us.

I guess what I mean to say is that if a designer started from the point of wanting to build a better evf than what a good evf can do, it would be a different design from starting from the point of how do we get rid of that complicated mechanism and make something smaller and cheaper.

EVF can be better in some regards, especially the small dim OVF of APSC cameras. With EVF we can see DOF, white balance, with tools to help us confirm fine focus... all live through the VF. OVF bears less relation to the final 'shot'. That said I like the low energy draw of an OVF and the fact that you feel slightly more connected looking through an optical assembly, rather than a screen.

I do believe Pentax will continue to make OVF cameras though, I wouldn't worry too much...

All I can say is that you’ve never seen anything like it from a design standpoint. Pentax will also release a few more point-and-shoots, but those are top secret at the moment as well. I really like Pentax. I’ve never had any major issues with their cameras and image quality is consistent across the board. For the mid-level DSLR shooter, you can’t go wrong with a Pentax. I’m predicting good things from from this company and am looking forward to reviewing the new models as they arrive from Japan.
Nooo, Mike Pearlman. His initial K-x and K-r reviews were what tipped me over to buy my K-r.

And now he teases me such?! What a cruel, cruel world.

Don't forget the dynamic range.

I'm all in for a hybrid viewfinder, that there isn't a DSLR that has one yet...

*rolls eyes* Yes, that's why they're the largest computer manufacturer in the world.
Apple are not now and have never been a computer manufacturer.

Nor is there recent success anything to do with computers, but rather down to the way they manage to sell gadgets based on must-have-it style, even if these are technically inferior to other products.
