What if this K-01 replaces SDM support (via powerzoom contacts) with a new interface? Dual-drive lenses would still AF using the screw drive motor..
exactly, - as i posted a few pages ago.

they would have to have to move the contacts if they are planning to recess lenses very deep inside the camera.

Sorry, too much audio in my head. I meant ADC.

OK, I thought so but I'm never sure what I'm not certain of. Or something.

I've been thinking all afternoon (mostly) about a three-lens roadmap. Sounds more like a diagram of my (snow-covered) driveway than a roadmap.

A pic of K-01 was leaked from a Chinese Pentax forum
I havent seen any comments about the picture in the post by "arnold" near the bottom of the first page in that thread. Is it a joke, or...? It's very scary looking.

Oh yeah, Arnold's picture is in this thread somewhere, but I'm not going back thru 80 pages to find it!

That was a prototype from 1997, or something like that. Don't worry.

Not even a prototype AFAICT. Only a hollow, fake device.
Proof of concept if you like.

Well, all digital cameras will be shelf cameras in ten years, so that's hardly surprising.
Pshaw, my 1DsII turns 8 this year and still kicks most other cameras' butts

The 1DS II is in another league from any other camera from which I've ever seen prints (aside from medium format).

Yea, you may be right. I think only the 17-70mm and DA*55 use exclusively SDM (?)

The 18-135 also uses an in-body motor only and has no screw drive.

So are they wrong?
Yes. Those two cameras perform practically identically as DxOMark shows. The differences in their measurements are easily within sample variations.

Regardless of what kind of AA-filter (or no AA-filter) there is, light arrivies to the sensor obeying poisson distribution, thus photon shot noise will be square root of the number of recorded photons.

That's ridiculous. If they would tell me I'd have to buy an adapter to be able to use my lenses (and be aware that some functionality loss could occur),
But what if an adapter in included with every camera, and when attached to the camera, it doesn't look or feel like and adapter, but like a solid part of the camera, and there is no loss of functionality?

Digital signals contain distortions (noise) that are converted to analog in the DAC.
There are no DACs. Signal is never converted to analog form from digital in cameras. All the noise in digital cameras come inside the analog domain (including the ADC). In digital domain the signal is fixed and no longer change.

ADC is the last part of the analog domain, and yes, it can adda noise to the signal. Good examples are Canon's cameras where the ADC is clearly to blame for the stagnating dynamic range on the low ISOs (ie. the DR remains same for a few stops until it starts to drop).

However, it's not part of the digital domain, but analog. After the ADC no noise is added.
