Ah, thanks!

Of course, Pentax could do the same. i.e., remove the screw drive motor from the mirrorless body and place it into an adapter. Would make the body cheaper and the adapter more expensive, with their sum remaining about equal though.

a mirrorless must be smaller.
An adapter enables both:
- small body
- use of old lenses

As long the k-mount lenses are "fully" supported including AF, I can´t care less if it is with or without adapter

Why couldn't a lens be recessed into the body with the contacts remaining where they are?
because they would get in the way if the lens recessed anymore than say half a centimetre- otherwise the final element of the lens would be limited to a relatively small diamiter

There is absolutely no reason why you can't get the same size for camera/lens with the full size mount as using a short mount. All that happens is the lens recesses into the body. Look at many leica lenses, they do this. Or the best ever example I can think of is the Mamiya 7 and 43mm wide angle lens. That lens recess into the mount almost as much as it sticks out past the mount. Spectacular quality too. Wish I could put mine on a 645D. With this you keep the robustness of only one mount but the ability to design shorter lenses and keep the robust mount for long lenses. There is always a tiny bit of slop when using extension tubes and teleconverters. This adapter would be nothing more than an extension tube. I don't think anybody want to deal with this kind of play with the adapter anytime using a standard K mount lens...

Worked fine on a Mamiya 6 and 7. And these two had some of the best performing wide angle glass produced. Look at the last element diameter on most of you current lenses. Most of them already recess into the mount 4mm or so. The only reason they don't go further is because of the mirror. When adapting lenses it is not uncommon to have to shave retaining pieces shorter or shave the mirror so it can swing up unobstructed.

But then they also want to make the lenses smaller, which means they should keep the screw drive motor.

if they did an adapter then it would probably be less than two cm long?
that way they could include the SDM contacts. it would also make the camera thinner, more like a film body hopefully.
hopefully that 59mm deep will be including the adapter. or just plain wrong .that would mean that everyone would be happy.

provided the adapter is not too expensive or it is sold with it as some one said in one of the 82 pages of posts I'm not going to search through.

So much for more K-mount lenses when the new lens doesn't work on dslr K-mount bodies. Moot point.

With an adapter, you get real K-mount lenses, and real mirrorless lenses, slimmer mirrorless body and the possibility to use K on mirrorless.
With this, you don't get any more, but lose the slim body.

Agree... It's making the K-mount lenses useless, without officially killing the K-mount.

I think it's the other way round though. I think there'll be just a handfull of lenses that will only be useable on the mirrorless camera. Like the Q.

The higher end line will remain DSLRs and they need lenses.
