I hope this does well for Pentax. I am personally not interested, but for someone who wants a great sensor for under $1,000, not to mention a nice bright lens, this oughta do the trick.

Still, I wonder who will end up buying this? People who want a next step up from a Micro-4/3rds camera, but not a full blown DSLR? I think that market is a little slim.

I have a DSLR, but it's hard to take something bulky everywhere. It also attracts a lot of attention just by looking "pro".

I would take something in classic MX form-factor, but still in K-mount and APS-C, over the other stuff with crappy sensors and new mounts. It all boils down to how good the EVF works, if battery life is good and if AF is at least decent.

And this isn't much of a step-up anyway. If anyone is interested in using full size SLR lenses with a MILC, the MFT platform is far more versatile than a K-mount based camera.

$750 body only with no viewfinder? I was expecting more like $599. Oh well.

I can see what you're saying with the NEX-5N being that price body only. Then again, the new Samsung NX200 is $900 body only (going off the Amazon price), the Olympus EP3 is $900 with a lens (like the K-01), Panasonic GX1 is $700 body only, Canon G1 X is $800 (Fixed lens), so the Pentax actually slots pretty well in there.

To be honest, if the true price turns out to be $750 that is cheaper than I thought it would be. I could see it dropping $100 over the next year, too.

The MFT's is a nice system but their sensor can't match the K-5 sensor and the lenses don't match the DA limiteds. This is by no means a perfect product but I think this a strong entrance into the APSC MILC market. And I think the choices made set Pentax up nicely for future products.

Does anyone hang out at other camera forums for other brands and formats? Is anyone there expressing any interest in this camera? That's a key test, as cameras like the Fuji X1Pro and Sony NEX-7 were drawing curious eyes from all photographers not just the brand loyal ones.
At POTN, no concerns over there.

HERE is an updated link

I see potential, but until the full specs are released, I see there being very little chance it's much of an upgrade from a K-5.
Interesting enough, one of the modes right on the dial is HDR.. wonder if that's on camera processing or bracketing or both..

I think this still looks WAY better...

No need to upgrade. Just buy as travel camera. As second camera.

The presence of an EVF is critical for me. I am game if it is - this will be my upgrade from my K10D and *istD. Not even the K5 tempted me enough to upgrade.
I love the thinking behind this camera. Reformulate the wide angle lenses to be non-retrofocal and protrude into the mirrorbox. Maintain compatibility with K and m42 mount lenses as well. Classic Pentax to not abandon its users. Whats the point of having a wafer thin camera with full size lenses (ala NEX).

What is there not to like here. Hmm, none of the spy shots show whats on the back end of the hump - (there is a glimmer of hope).

In a short while the street price may be about that. But rapidly approaching the price of Q. So maybe not.

Pentax ought to be very careful how to price this camera.

RFF is slamming the design

Pentax K-01, Ugliest Camera Ever - Rangefinderforum.com

Which I think is a good sign, as a camera that appeals to them is not likely to appeal to the camera's target audience.

This doesn't look much less bulky than a k-5...
