Looking at that list, it's clear that the K-01 isn't a mirrorless camera but a K-5 without a mirror.
Nope, something more seems be stripped down, max shutter speed, Tav mode.

Well, I have to admit I like the looks of the camera -- at first it looked a little weird, but it has this brutalist design going which is pretty cool.

However, I am scratching my head over just what it is. Sounds like we are getting a DSLR minus the mirror, viewfinder and phase-detect AF, while retaining the registration distance guaranteeing it to be fairly thick. So what exactly is gained over the already-compact Pentax DSLRs?

K-01 Does Focus Peaking!

K-01 Will do focus peaking - that's definitely new.

EDIT: by the way I got 2 trojans/virus in quarantine and still scanning now after opening the link to prweb... had to restart and do a virus scan - really slowed the computer.

To be safe, recommend not opening the PRweblink!

1. Even smaller camera
2. Better with MF lenses with all the MF aids avaliable on an LCD
3. WYSIWYG focus accuracy
4. No flopping mirror since there is no mirror (I don't have a clue of this problem though; no on in the rather large Singapore user base has this problem)

To me; #1,2,3 are the main reasons I'd want one.

The CDAF on K5 is not slow, though its quirky with it zoom in and such. So I'd expect the K-01 to be better. In fact I think the Q AF is pretty decent after the firmware upgrade, so perhaps thats a gauge.

plus, maybe better video and h.264 compression (60 FPS at 720p) if you take video

I've heard that mirror shake can be a problem on Pentax 67, so the next thing to wait for will be the mirrorless Pentax 67-01

Sure, but 2,3 and 4 could be solved with a minor update to the existing Liveview functionality on a DSLR. So the only thing that remains is "smaller", but the DSLRs are already very compact and you still have to retain the required flange-sensor distance so it can't get much smaller than them.

Don't want to sound all negative here since I like the design and I like Pentax glass (and will be buying a mirrorless this year, though not sure what). But I don't really "get" it.

So the unknown improvements will be in burst shooting, frame buffer size and speed etc.. HDR mode capabilities, Time laps functionality.. other functions and modes maybe?? IR shooting mode or something would be cool twist. I guess we'll have to see how much image noise/ISO noise is improved between the processing and the removal of the mirror assembly.

Cant see why not, its been stated that the camera has full manual mode, probably just effect the metering as with all the recent DSLR's (stop down).

Samsung doesn't deserve this comparison.
