By all accounts, Ricoh want to expand Pentax's product line. I would expect K-mount cameras at at least 4 different price points by year end.

I think the target group is a sort of a noobish, first propper camera seeking, not too sure about Mirror reflex, high pixel amount seeking, high iso seeking, small not in your face camera, lets be seen with a camera in the streets, cool brand toting, not too many people have one kind of a group. Phew I need to stop stereotyping. Also I hope I have not offended too many people. I mean, surely if you're into wanting a great camera you would just get a k-5?

I hope you are right, but a company that only just merged they would be aiming pretty high. But maybe a promised lineup of 4 new cameras was enough reason for Ricoh to merge. Meaning the cameras would have taken quite some time to develop rather than being a rushed job...

The K-01 gives you the K-5 sensor at a good discount. Plus it's quite a bit smaller and presumably will offer in-video autofocus.

For a lot of people a DSLR is too pro/intimidating.

I don't like the mode button on the right hand side. I often knock it on the K-x by accident when I walk around.

The hump hides the popup flash.

It looks toyish.. but then again so is my K-x. And about style, well it does look made by an industrial designer....

Well, looking at pentax.ru, apparently there IS nothing under it.

I was hoping for a bit more, so will pass on this one.

Yeah, it's a real shame about the lack of EVF. It's a deal-killer for what seemed a pretty nice camera.

I love the looks of the K-01, and it seems to be in a nice place size/feature/price-wise (going by the rumors)...
but... no VF, no sale. Taking photos using a back screen is just too impossibly painful in so many circumstances.

Sorry Pentax; maybe next model?

I'm a little curious what they were thinking though. EVFs seem to be a trend in "prosumer mirrorless" these days (nikon, sony, olympus, panasonic, fuji, even ricoh (!) all seem to have an EVF as at least an option on their PSM cameras), so obviously there must be some demand for them, and lately the EVF tech has really advanced to the point where they're really quite nice (especially compared to the awful low-res flickery EVFs of years past).
