At $749, this camera's amazing. Given half a year, it'll drop to probably sub $600, and about $500 on the used market. Lack of viewfinder isn't an issue for me at this point, this looks like what the NEX3 and NEX5 was when they came out - except now I can use my k-mount lenses at full function. Maybe I'll consider getting this before the k-5 replacement comes out.

Can somebody explain me, who is the target group?
For me, K01 is a better P&S, with not so different dimensions compared to K5 and just mildly reduced price.
Can somebody explain me, when I should use K01 instead of K5? To save few mm in size ?

I will not mention design what is pure personal thing.

Stunned.

It's the size and cost of the KX - a camera who's replacement will have all the features of the K-01 (16 mpx etc)

The new lenses for it won't work on Pentax SLR's

It's not weather sealed.

I guess it's not aimed at me, but I can't really see who it is aimed at? Fashionistas only?

It's aimed at the same people who bought Sony NEX5s and Samsung NX200s

I feel this is not for someone who has a dSLR and is using its full capabilities. I see it as a step-up from a mere P&S, into a more advanced realm. With its capabilities and choice of lenses, definitely a big step-up from P&S. And, I do like the design and can appreciate the "heftiness"...

Except it's much bigger.

EVF is hardly to find in shops. The answer: no demand.

NEX-3 and NEX-5 have no too...
The NEX5n does. Pretty much every other enthusiast MILC released in the the last year has a built in or the provision for a clip-on one. So it's obviously not intended to be in that market.

The same demo as the NEX3/GF3? People who want a big sensor still/video camera to record the kids but really don't want to move away from the P&S type interface? And presumably sees this as a gateway drug, getting those people on K mount?

I completely agree, that's what the entire mirrorless market has been catering to. Did we want to go with what Nikon did and introduce a smaller sensor and a completely different lens lineup (plus that shocking pink?)

The K-01 is to me, the antithesis to the J1/V1. Ugly. Boxy. Supports all native lenses. Massive sensor.

And I can use my k lenses in AF without even using an adaptor. Have you seen those NEX5s with k-mount lenses AND the adaptor? It's not a pretty sight man.

Point taken about demand, but then I'm pretty sure none of the cameras you mentioned are anywhere near the K-01's weight of 560g with battery and SD card, and then you can add in the weight of the lens of your choice.

Personally i don't fancy trying to hold over 1kg+ out in front of me for too long.

I think this camera is a winner for the video folk, but not so much for the still shooters.

I see something new:
1. Prime M processor
2. Full HD 1080p video capture at 30 FPS with h.264 compression (60 FPS at 720p) features shutter speed and aperture exposure control, video autofocus control
3. 81 AF points
4. No PEF
5. Focus Peaking

I like the presenter. Entertaining but informative. And honest.

The K-01 is 560G with battery and SD card, not the k-5. The k-5 is 740g with battery and SD card, if that's what you meant.

The DA40mm is 90G, so the XS version should be lighter.

The same question one more time:
Does that 40mm XS works with Pentax DSLR?

Yes that's what I meant. I'd already corrected it but you beat me to it.

And even with the XS it will be over 600g.

Cheers
