maybe k-01 had a sister model on the drawing boards that is being held back by Ricoh?
possible in a year or two we'll see a k-02 weathersealed and evf model?
I think the ricoh is likely but i also think it has no serious impact on the plans for Pentax product since it is running as a separate brand (it's not like GM where several brands were all basically the same except for cosmetics)

I do however think they are probably developing at least 1 if not 2 more mirrorless models for release, bearing in mind this project was more Hoya than Ricoh
Whether any will be this year or early next year who knows. I will bet on a big presence at Photokina though with a few things before tokeep interest building

I've had the G3 and the GX1 predecessor (GF2) side by side. They are essentially the same size except for the EVF welded to the top of the G3.

Pentax K-01
thanks

and it's nice to see someone who finds it a beautiful design. Getting outside the insular camera community and hgetting opinions from another area is quite a different view of it.

I just got through looking at the camera again. If it was $750 with the kit lens + they had two other low profiles in wide and tele (not the current DA Limiteds) I might get it. I do wish the 40mm was F2.0 at least but they probably couldn't have made it that thin. I think it's kind of nice design.

Well the $750 i think will happen pretty quickly that's where the Nex 5 is with cumbersome 18-55 kit that is outperformed by the pentax kit zoom

As for the wide and tele xs models I wouldn't be surprised to see them come down the road, 21 XS would be 350-399, 70 xs 300-350
Add a $300 sunshade for the LCD and for less than the price of the X pro you'd have a good little 3 lens kit (add small lens cases for the lenses that mount on the strap like the old little lens cases, perfect lightweight travel kit with excellent iq

A couple of thousand posts and I think a lot of people don't get it.
1. It's a k mount that adds value to our kit
2. K mount is not going extinct any time soon
3. To make it k mount it has to be thick
4. making it thick provides a range of design issues when you are also trying to keep it small
5. The camera at less than $800 will probably match some $5000 cameras

The camera was probably made for a different market although someone like me who uses multiple camera will find it very useful when I buy it.

We should be celebrating that future investment will be in K mounts compatible with our kit.

Ricoh has made the right choice for me keeping the K mount alive.

The reason I have a digital pentax is for the lenses...like the 21 DA
The only reason I would buy a mirrorless camera would be compatablity with my current pentax lenses....so I like Pentax' approach with the new camera

I am wondering if a K mount module would have SR. Not that I would be interested in one anyway, but I wonder if it's possible or it might be too much of a challenge for the GXR design.

I guess they will issue a K-mount GXR without SR, not to make that much of a direct concurrence to the K-01 and also as it would be too much demanding for the GXR grip/module

Yes, they definitely shouldn't repeat that debacle where they abandoned the M42 mount and forced their user base to use Takumars on Canon cameras.

That could be a commercial reason, but I was asking if there is a technical reason why it may not be convenient - like, for example, it may make the module too bulky or it may draw too much power.

They very recently got a patent to that very purpose I believe.

They would be better off developing a DA 135 f2.8 LTD than revamping the others..
