Excluding previous year closeouts, all of the US$200 pocket super zooms are crap IMO.

If you want a decent, you have to jump to the $400 range. If you want manual controls, bump it up to $500 and double the size.

Buy Fuji...What is the problem? Do you want to say that you've been waiting for VS20 several years?
QVC sent me the VS20 instead of the Q a few months ago by mistake and I sent it back. If I were in the market for a 20x compact superzoom it would be the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20.

Totally Agree !! The Panasonic Lumix ZS20 was actually the one I was going for, having had a ZS7. It has full manual controls, excellent lens, video and stereo recording capabilities, and is just an excellent all round point and shoot camera. So I'm selling off the VS20, and going to make do with an older Pentax Optio Z10 until I can get a ZS20 (and/or even the Nokia 808 Pureview 41MP camera phone !!).

+1 I just ordered a ZS-20 to replace my ZS-7. Under $270 (shipped, to an American address) at Adorama. Life is good ...

I suspect that Charles Addams' fans are having a fine chuckle here .... (For the sadly uninitiated, please check "The Addams Family" on Wikipedia, with special reference to "The Thing". Then check Google images for a few cartoons. I treasure my collection ....

The VS20 ranks last in this recent Norwegian test.

I really hope that's the last underperforming P&S from Pentax, they're destroying their market image with these bad cameras.

This year there are actually three of the cameras that have a staggering 20 times zoom, and without the cameras have been somewhat greater, says Geir Nordby. Among the eight cameras, there is one that stands out negatively, and it's Pentax Optio VS20 . It is the cheapest camera in the test, but image quality is poor compared to the competition. Winner camera has GPS maps and touch screen Winner camera, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30 , take the comparison much better pictures. - Panasonic Lumix is the most expensive in the test, but it is definitely worth the money. Panasonic camera is almost perfect, says Geir Nordby in Sound & Image / Home . camera knallbra images, extreme zoom and features playful touches. In addition, GPS maps and touch screen, so you can keep track of where your pictures were taken.

Christine Tham just posted photos taken with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 (Lumix DMC-TZ30) that look great.

At least Pentax gets better press coverage here today - the leading newspaper Aftenposten has a story on choosing the right camera for tomorrow's national day, and Pentax K-r is one of their favorites:
"Det er i det hele tatt vanskelig å gjøre et bedre kjøp enn dette for tre tusenlapper" ("It's difficult to make a better purchase for 3000 kroner")

But I guess an owner of one of the not so good Pentax P&S cameras would still think twice...
