Yay!

I'm really happy with my K-5... But the thing that will get me excited is when Pentax comes out with a FF.

As I understand - we will see K-5's replacement and camera above K-5 this year. K-01 is instead of K-r.
Thats what I'm looking for, a camera above the K-5. I seem to skip every other model, so I'd like something so much better than my K7 that it convinces me to upgrade. That and more fast primes.

But even if I dont upgrade, I want to see Pentax as a brand grow and flourish.

I doubt it. I expect the K-01 to be very expensive around $1500-2000. Use the Q as reference....

"Ricoh has indicated that it plans to expand Pentax's camera business and re-hire engineers that Hoya dispensed with"

YES! Best news yet, including the K-01 and all other rumors!

i guess it is effectively a k-5 without a mirror. if it comes with a modified DA 40, one would expect it to be around that price mark

They used to offer the K200D, in between the K2000 and K20D.

I am firmly convinced that the DSLR announcement at CP+ will be the K-r replacement (and the new MILC too).

Need to see what the K-01 is before figuring out if it is a K-r replacment or something above or below the K-r in a mirrorless format. In the past (before mirrorless) I could see a three tier APS-C dslr camera. A camera above the K-5 is needed. Now with mirrorless I just haven't figure out what I would like to see marketed by Pentax in the way of APS-C cameras. Maybe two dslrs with one being a K-5 level and one being above the K-5. With mirrorless also two with one being around the K-5 level and one being in the K-5 level.

Still FF is needed.

Not bad. Still good he didn't say no.
Brighter days ahead for Pentax, it seems.

Where is he right now? Working for Canon or Nikon?

I think for CP+ the announcement is the K-01 along with a new news roadmap. Companies do like to make announcements a few days before a show so Pentax did theirs a week ahead of the show and just ahead of Pentax Day.

The more exciting things will come in the fall for Photokina. Maybe even a little earlier for straight replacements since the K-5 is getting a little old.

Agreed. I love my K5. I don't need much better than it right now. Knock on wood, its been more reliable than any camera I've owned, it takes amazing pictures, and I think I just scratched the surface in it's true capabilities.

However, a FF would make me jump for joy. I love my M series glass, my DA40mm limited, and my Tamron 90mm Macro, all FF capable lenses. So I would be finding my pennies.

If the K01 is reasonably priced, and it specs put it similar in size to the J1... and its the same sensor as the K5... and has better manual controls than the J... then I think my wife has a new Nikon.
