YES! Best news yet, including the K-01 and all other rumors!
That is really interesting. I could have seen them adding more engineers, but rehiring some of the exact same engineers that Hoya got rid of? That would have to help team morale.

I wonder if there was some bad blood with the Pentax team and how Hoya streamlined the company, getting it ready for market, that we never heard about fully. I know people were pretty angry about Jun Hirakawa being retired, like people have referenced in this thread.

The best news of all this is that the Pentex K-1 is only the beginning. We could see some more goodies later in the year and into 2013. Looking forward to it

However, a FF would make me jump for joy. I love my M series glass, my DA40mm limited, and my Tamron 90mm Macro, all FF capable lenses. So I would be finding my pennies.
agreed. If they put out a smaller (than the competition) FF, the potential to use my DA 40 & 70 on it would be very appealing. I'd be very happy to sell my K20d and DA* 16-50 to fund (a part) of that bad boy
and It would stop me from thinking about the NEX 7 or the new Fuji X Pro 1

if only for Jun as a symbolic move. Plus then he could do a DFA rework on his designs for the FF that is coming

I agree, they should try to get him back for at least consolation work. He made some of my favorite Pentax glass.

Lovely to hear. Maybe the K-01 coming out is to be in the middle, and I would love to see what's going to be above.
How can bike fill in the gap between two cars?

Come on, K-01 is not a DSLR. It won't be filling gaps in DSLR line up.

Come on, I would at least rate the K-01 as a motorbike

Under different cirmcumtances, a motorbike could be much more optimal than a car...

Yes, but it is still not a car.

And going back to K-01: I don't really get that mirrorless obsession. Seems like "me too" product. Why would anyone sacrifice optical viewfinder for 10% body size reduction (size reduction is even less when lens is mounted)? I can understand Q. But not K-mount mirrorless...

There are some other advantages of mirrorless. Without a mirror, you have fewer moving parts, so they MAY be more robust. I think (could be wrong) mirrorless cameras use super-high shutter speed and/or flash synch speed? Good for freezing high speed objects. Still, I think the disadvantages (slower autofocus and worse viewfinder) outweigh the positives, unless a mirrorless system is much less expensive, or size is absolutely vital to the photographer.

That said, I think a lot of owners of these micro 4/3 cameras, etc. are DSLR owners who want something smaller to tote around on occasion. In that case, Pentax has a big advantage over micro 4/3 or competitors if the camera takes the same lenses as their DSLR. That's pretty great from my POV, and I would buy one as a second camera.
