With CDAF it will not, another plus

P.S: I know you were being sarcastic, lol!

Pentax had good luck. K-m and K-7 are the bodies started before Hoya to succeed the K10D body. Same for the 645D obviously. Moreover, it was said sometimes that after the K-7, the 645D consumed all of R&D which was left.

The recent success of the K-5 is Sony's success, not Pentax' Which is why I said Pentax had good luck.

I didn't actually mean to argue at all, just to point out that people frequently use cameras without the evf as serious camcorders. I see now that the emphasis on your statement was on the word "wants."

It's not ideal, of course, but it is also not exclusive to SLR shooting. I rented a RED for a project a few weeks ago, and the rental house didn't offer a package with an EVF that fit within the project's budget. They did have a package with a monitor, though, so we operated the entire shoot using the monitor rather than the evf. It's also quite common to operate motion picture film cameras using a monitor rather than a viewfinder. I've seen this with both 16mm and 35mm shoots.

On most of these film projects, though, monitors weren't used exclusively. There were usually some shots for which, because of ergonomics, the operators preferred to use the optical viewfinder.

EVF technology is an interesting topic, though. I don't know anything about the technological side of things. I was on a shoot with the Arri Alexa recently, which has an EVF. While we were testing the lenses, both of the assistants who were looking through the eyepiece complained that the EVF was not sharp enough for them to be able to judge fine focus. We looked this up, and it was a pretty standard complaint for the Alexa's first iteration. I have been told that they have updated the EVF to address this problem.

Their next camera, the Alexa Studio, will actually feature an optical viewfinder, and a reflex mirror.

Nikon D7000 = another Sony success story?

Bonjour,

With all due respect, quite a few might disagree that the K-5 success was due (only) to Sony ... take maybe the D7000 as an example.

Nothing wrong with procuring the best possible sensor for your final product, especially when you do not fabricate your own sensors ... maybe D7000 & company again, etc.

Yes, I switched from my (used) K-7 to a new K-5 in part for the better sensor ... but really, I did not change anything ... I love the K-7/K-5 body, etc. and wanted a new warrantied DSLR that I would hang on to for the next few years ... my old K-7 was the stepping stone that convinced me for the acquisition of the K-5.

I bought the camera, not just the sensor ... enough said.

Allez et bien cordialement, J Frog

Is that useful in pratice? Or just a gimmick?
I have heard Sony has it? How exact is it?

Sony has it, as does Ricoh. Most people I have talked to prefer the Ricoh version since it appears to be more accurate, though the Sony one seems decent enough as long as you are not trying to nail focus on someone's eye with a fast prime.

From the specs list, I would skip it due to the following issues:

* No 24/25/30 fps video is a mistake Pentax keep on making. (It would of been nice if they announced 4K video as Nikon have done)

* No 1/8000th shutter speed

* ISO range of 100, it would of been nice to see it have the extended ISO 80 as the K-5 does.

* No viewfinder or EVF.

If this was a full frame mirrorless with VF I would of considered it...

It has ISO80, so assuming Sunny16, it allows shooting around ISO80; f2; 1/4000 (a bit over, but Pentax metering is usual a bit under anyway )
No game ender to me.
I have a G3 which is base ISO160 and 1/4000 max, and I've almost never run into a problem with its 20/1.7 and 45/1.8

Just my personal experience.

And I thought 1/2000 was ultra cool when I got my LX (But never really saw 1/1000 max on my MX as a problem)

Yeah, I would also consider an FF mirrorless at $749...

Still, proper video controls, good continuous AF plus 60fps 720p will do the job for me. If the SR doesn't misbehave while shooting video it will be a perfect bonus.
I can see my self buying a K01 just for video (no use for an EVF there after all), especially as my dealer suggests a street price of 559 euros for the summer.
I just hope video quality will be on a par with the NX5n.

And since I am getting sick of all this retro-mania, I do believe the camera looks fresh. Hopefully, while other manufacturers go retro, Pentax will build cameras looking towards the future.
