I like some of the design elements (e.g., the on-off switch) but overall it looks too much like a toy to me. Too much of a "my first Sony" touch, AFAIC.

That new 40mm lens is an absolute abomination. I have really no idea who comes up with something like this for what reason.

The K-01 looks a lot better with some appealing lens, with a Ltd for instance, but a proper lens makes it even more obvious that there's no eye-level finder. Anyhow, I hope it makes Ricoh money so that they are encouraged to do better designs.

But so torn on the EVF factor now
I wonder how many NEX-5N users choose the optional external EVF for the camera?
I suspect only a small proportion. Most users are probably happy to get by without one in this class of camera.

Later better specced versions may offer an EVF I guess.

I note these high-res pix were taken on a Leaf Aptus 65.

Why no 645D images Pentax?

A 645D is still not a studio tool because it lacks tethering software and all...

Its hot sauce. Looks awesome. But so torn on the EVF factor now. :S
NEX-3 and NEX-5 has no OVF/EVF and support A mount only via adapter.

I am gonna buy one in two to five months - it's designed for my. I can use all my lenses, flash, batteries and so on and in case I would want an VF, I use my K5 Only thing I miss is a tiltable LCD Screen....

I can't see what anyone has been missing until today.

If you ask me, the K-01 is fair competition with the Fuji X-pro.
No way. I'll keep it short: "Hybrid Viewfinder".

What's the deciding factor that makes a lot of people go for Pentax?
Value for money, backwards compatibility, in-body shake reduction, weather-sealing.

Of these only two are realised but we knew that before. What were you referring to?

EDIT: Of course "ergonomics" is another strong suit of Pentax. Unfortunately, the K-01 drops the ball here as well. Too few controls and those which are present are not optimal. The exposure compensation button is ill-placed, for instance (not the only problem, unfortunately).

Whatever ...

With all due respect, you cite me out of context here which I don't appreciate.

Actually, we agree more than we disagree.

I said that the success of the K-5 has two factors: the great K-7 body and the great Sony sensor. But AFAIK the K-7 body is a project started before Hoya took over and Sony is Sony which is why the K-5 success is nothing Hoya deserves any credit for (ok, except they only delayed, not cancelled, it).
Bonjour,

Yes, we do agree on a lot basically ... and "non" I really do not think that I quoted you too much out of context. Please note that I did look at your previous postings ... a quite a few to boot.

Also, with all due respect again, you do not even bother to quote my message in its entirety ... who's taking who out of context, now?

No defamation, insult and/or injury was intended in any shape, fashion or form upon my part, so apologies are offered, if needed ... and one would think that a Pentaxian with over 5,500 posts would maybe have a thicker forum skin.

Cordialement, J

I just hope they don't paint it 47 different colors or make it look like a Lego toy.

Please.

The ones they sell in Japan might have that kind of colour schemes, I am afraid.

Doubtless it's been said before but no eye piece view finder renders it pretty much a toy as far as I am concerned. No excitement here until Pentax get round to improving the K5, 'tis a great camera already but the floppy mirror and low light AF problems do need addressing.

What's going to be the aspect reviews will insist on? Lack of VF. Heavy as a dslr, and yet no VF. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like a (resounding) failure. No way this can win new customers for the Pentax brand.

The new DA 40mm seems to want being dropped on the floor. Nothing to hold on to. Why make the thinnest Pentax lens even thinner?

It seems the weight can't be avoided in a MILC that retains the K mount. The logical move for Pentax would be to come up with a FF MILC, IMO--I mean, a FF that has a viewfinder. Preferably, not designed by Marc Newson. No reason to compete with the NEX, and the K-01 leads nowhere. But a K mount FF MILC (with EVF) would be something new, indeed.

I see something new:
1. Prime M processor
2. Full HD 1080p video capture at 30 FPS with h.264 compression (60 FPS at 720p) features shutter speed and aperture exposure control, video autofocus control
3. 81 AF points
4. No PEF
5. Focus Peaking

That Focus Peaking might actually draw away people that like Fuji but want FP and Nex but want better ergonomics. Hard to say that it is going to work, the reaction of the internet has been rather appalling.

Pay attention to the video. If you are enthusiast or semi-pro still shooter - do something else.

Way back when I've read the XA was the professional's pocket camera on a busman's holiday.
