I'm shocked that there' no EVF. It looks like that top 'prism' housing is removable and I wouldn't be surprised if a EVF module becomes available.

Naw, the hump houses the pop-up flash so it won't be removable. The hot-shoe may or may not be able to accommodate an external EVF.

But either way, chillax for a half-year or so and I'm sure there will be a higher-tier member of the mirrorless system which will have an EVF and some pro-type features.

Maybe this new camera will help sell lots of K5's.
Quite right, I was holding out for this release before I was going to consider upgrading to the K-5. With this thing, the choice is easy, especially with the extended discount until end of March.

Me too, I really hope that there will be a replaceable EVF top.
K-01 might tell that this is the cheapest mirrorless body, with later coming better/more sofisticated -02, -03 models

Forgive me it this has already been posted, but here are several new pictures from the Russian site I haven't seen yet - including pictures of the back. No EVF

Calling it now: K-05. Built-in EVF, swively-swing LCD, two control wheels, no "SCN" on the mode wheel

The K-5 LCD is no way bright enough for daytime use as EVF IMO. I only ever use mine to check settings and review a few shots for exposure etc. Also, Live View is pretty 'sloshy' on screen so if they expect us to use that mode all the time this camera will not be with me anytime soon.

A pro version looks like it could be interesting though. If the K-5 sensor is now the introductory model then we can look forward to at least a 24mpx sensor for the pro i think. 36mpx would be my choice though.. lol

Maybe the K-5 replacement will still be a DSLR though.....

Can't believe (ok, sadly can believe it all too easily) that there is no EVF. Another P&S but a big bulky one, great. If it's £200 so I can finally get my glass back into use then I might go for it, but if it's more than that then I really don't see the point.

I hope the K-01 is only a lollipop before real stuff will be introduced in the CP+ show 9th of February

Jeez - so about the same price over here as a K-5. That's realistic...

(we get reamed over here, usually $=£ regardless of exchange rate)

I think I fall within the target market for the k-01, but I'm not interested. I own a P&S but I want to learn to take better photos. I have a number of Pentax lenses left to me by my father-in-law and I've been itching to buy a Pentax for over a year. I like the price point of the k-r, but I thought the K-01 might be better way for me to go. I love the idea that I could finally use the lenses I have sitting in a box, and I think mirror-less is the way of the future. I like the way the K-01 looks from the front (especially with other lenses photoshoped onto the body) but the camera body is way too thick, and I think the top view is ugly. I'll keep waiting for a mirrorless with an EVF or find a used k-r or k-5 (I can dream).
